Shortstacked, but not TOO shortstacked

How do you play during a $20+2 tourney when you have 6-700 chips at the 50/100 level and blinds won't go up for at least a few hands? I find this time difficult, as lots of players that are somewhat largestacked will reraise a 3X bet (I tend to go by the "if it's 40% of my stack, push" rule) but not many hands are worth pushing for that 150 in blinds.

For instance, with 650t left, 100 bb, cutoff position, 6 players left, 3 fold to you. What do you do with A8s? KQo? KJs? 77? Would you consider a 2X bet for some hands, depending on the read you have on the blinds? This is apart from slowplaying monster pairs of course.

thanks in advance

I understand your reluctance to push 'this early', but in an unopened pot with only 6.5BB left, I would push all four of these. Just one 20% increase to your stack size will keep you healthy another orbit for the L5 pushing.

Yupz. Shove 'em all, and I don't think that any of the hands you mentioned are close.

<10x BB, go into push/fold bot mode.

thanks for the replies. <10bb? wow. Ok, then what would you do in this situation (which I just had)? 1750t left, 200bb level, 5 players, CO position with a fold in front, holding KTo?

This is one of those close spots. If the button, SB and BB all have bigger (or the same stacks) as you, it is an easy fold. If some of the players in the blinds have significantly less then you, then it probably becomes a push since you can't go broke if you lose to one of them. In general though, it is a fold unless the people behind you are only calling with monsters or if they are short on chips.
