Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
I want to learn about how to trade stocks that i'll hold for like 5 to 10 days but am having a hard time finding anything out. Can someone point me in a direction? I'm really looking for specific things, like a system, indicators, how to select a stock, entry and exit points, etc.

you'll look forever but you won't find anything

Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
Im sure there are people selling systems.

Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
systems for sale are a waste, they are just optimized and fall apart over time.

Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
So it is impossible for me to ever learn anything regarding this subject?

Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems

Will the third responder be usefull? [/ QUOTE ] I will never understand why people post totally useless information, in reply to a serious question. 5-10 day holding periods is generally considered swing trading. For some specific thoughts on swing trading... The Master Swing Trader by Alan Farley. Also for the psychology/money management aspects that apply to all types of trading, you should read books by: Elder, Douglas and Van Tharp. |
Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
I guess what your looking for is penny stocks. They are worth like 0.01 (penny obviously) and so they jump around and you make lots of money (if your lucky). These are very high risk short term stocks. their are websites that just do research and look for potentially profitable penny stocks (just google penny stocks). Anyways hopes this helps.
Don't jump in until you know what your doing. |
Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
And even if the stock jumps up there is a big chance you won't get the shares sold.

Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
The Farley book and Landry on Swing Trading are what you want.

Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
Options. Learn about them especially Uncovered Put writing. Options have expirations that range from a month to a year. The longest you'd have to wait to profit is a month, but if the stock moves enough you can profit even faster. I make a steady living doing this. I like playing strangles on google (learn about straddles and strangles as well).

Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
yeah, i also think those swing trader books are what you want.
6-7 days i'd consider short-term although obviously not day-trading... i think you want to play oil when it's hot, bio-tech when it's hot etc, and those are probably 6 month cycles at minimum (gosh, oil could be 20 year cycle). |

Re: Mid-Term Stock Strategies/Systems
For a 5-to-10 day holding period, you want THE MASTER SWING TRADER, a book by Alan Farley. It's got exactly what you are looking for.
This book details many interesting setups for that short-term holding period. I am NOT a big fan of short holding periods because high frequency trading leads to high transactions costs. If you are serious about starting, you might consider protecting yourself by limiting your trades initially to - long stock only - no margin and - only stocks over $10 trading at least 200K shares a day. The basic premise here is that if you cannot master unleveraged long stock in the leading issues, you really cannot master the more complex trading opportunities that are available. Certainly the opportunities trading unleveraged long stock are quite plentiful if you are patient and have a solid methodology. Once you are consistently successful for at least a year trading unleveraged long stock you can move to to shorting, margin leverage etc. You might also read everything you can on Position Sizing Alan Farley is a master and he has a very nice, easy-to-follow writing style.
