Does anyone else listen to music when they play? And if so, do you have a song or two which seem to you to embody the experience of playing hold 'em? For reasons I can't quite articulate there are a couple songs that do this for me.

'Plain Song' by The Cure
'Rain When I Die' by Alice in Chains
'Loud Love' by Soundgarden

Just wondering if anyone else has thoughts on this.

When I play Omaha 8 or better, I listen to Tool's cover of "No Quarter."

When I play holdem, I listen to The Swans' album "The Great Annihilator."

When I play stud, I listen to "The Best of The Carpenters."

I'm not a big stud fan.

Howdy!

I suggest a portal MP3 player that can handle .WMA's with smaller file size and sound just as good.

I have a 128 meg with a 512 meg addon card, holding 316 songs, which is more than enough for me.

Advantage with that is if the unit dies or gets broke by me, I am only out the unit price and 20% of the songs, plus I could get another card and swap it out if I wanted.

My unit uses ONE AA, big advantage... recharging the unit is more expensive and/or just a pain, rechargable hidden batteries DIE also and are generally not standard, and cost is $50+ if you can even find one.

I'd suggest looking at many models, but be sure it's expandable... many aren't at all!

Here's are decent ones 64meg and 128meg base RAM only, use only 1 AAA, but go up to 1 gig expanded and with FM tuner: $99/$130 direct.

http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/shop/_templates/item_accessories.asp?model=95&cat=53

I have had model S11 over 6 months, no problems and original ear buds are excellent, but no FM tuner, but I prefer my selections anyhow.

I suggest getting an ipod, dying your hair red, and trying to look like a cute asian chick. Also, try to pick up a lot of pots by raising the turn.

And if you get desperate enough, Britney Spears' "Lucky" commit suicide or get unstuck.

That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

Nice to see another Chris Cornell fan prowling the boards. BTW, did you know that Ultramega OK was nominated for a grammy for best hard rock album back in '88?

for any coldplay fans, there's a track on their "brothers and sisters" single called "only superstition" which i like a lot. i don't know if it's meant to be about poker but i find something in it that makes me think of it... lyrics below.

jeff

Only Superstition
by Coldplay

A cardboard inner-city
Has found its way to me
It's out, and it's out, and it's out
Making me cry

I think that I will not move
I'm too scared to leave my room
But I won't be defeated, oh no

What if cards don't go my way?
Then it's sure to spoil my day
But in voices loud and clear
You say to me it's only superstition
It's only your imagination
It's only your other things that you feel
And the things from which you can't escape

Keep clean for the thousandth time
Stand still and wait in line
So nobody's better than others, oh no

What if cards don't go my way?
Then it's sure to spoil my day
But in voices loud and clear
You say to me it's only superstition
It's only your imagination
It's only your other things that you feel
And the things from which you can't explain

And it's making me cry
And it's making me cry
And I'm slipping away, love
I'm slipping away

It's only superstition
Only your imagination
It's only superstition
Only superstition

when I was playing poker a lot, I was listening to Whiskeytown's Pnunemonia - and so I stole the band's name for my online name.

Last night....playing full tilt poker freeroll, I was listening to liveireland.com (cable modem = lots of streaming audio and irish music) -

until I heard a cover of Dervish doing Bob Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather" - it was horrible, so I grabbed a different version (Nanci Griffin w/Bob on Harmonica) - and listened to that song the last two hrs. of the tourney.

I don't go for hard rock at a poker game...I leave everclear/jane's addiction at home and look for the peaceful/sad music....

I have a CD created and I select random shuffle. I have some classic stuff on there as well as some newer tunes.

Night Ranger "sister Christian"
Warrant- "sometimes she cries" and "cherry Pie" yum yum.
Green Day "here we go"
Kid Rock "Ba wit da ba" and "Cowboy" and "American Bad Ass"

Beastie Boys "No sleep til Brooklyn!"

and a bunch of others. Keeps me aggressive keeps my mind working. I have a bunch of others as well but those are my favorites.

When I want to play loose aggressive and generally maniacal, 'Born to Be Wild'
When I want to play tight passive and rock-like,
'Eve of Destruction'
When I want play loose passive, I like 'Tiptoe Through The Tulips'
When I want to play tight, aggressive, I turn the fricken music off.

Hey Mike,
For someone putting in your freakishly long hours playing live, an iPod is absolutely mandatory. Do not accept any cheap substitute. Just save one BB in your 200/400 game and your golden.

"Gimme the loot" by BIG always gets me fired up to play. Otherwise its MF Doom, Def Jux, or some other wierd underground ish.

I don't listen to music when i play, except at home. Then my cd player is usually blasting out Fu Manchu <California Crossing>

Why this band doesn't get more/any airplay on rock radio is beyond me. They're used in radio bumper music and on tv spots <motorcycle mania 3 - jesse james and kid rock> all the time.

This band f*cking rocks!

"Death or Glory" by The Clash.

[/ QUOTE ]

Interesting - especially as there is a song called The Card Cheat just two tracks later on London Calling. But Death or Glory is a much more powerful stonker of a tune. I have always had problems with deciphering some of the lyrics in the second verse which sound like: "I believe in this, and it's been tested by research, he who f**ks nuns will later join the church." Strange
