View Full Version : Limit = 1BB per hour, what metric for NL?

So 1 big blind per hour is decent limit play (Seems very conservative to me).
What's a good expectation for NL?
10 BB? 20? What about for amateur, average, expert? Does this expectation go down a lot as you move up limits?

Thanks

online a lot of players can make 2-3 bb/hour, 1-2 was kind of the old thinking when you played in a casino and only got half of the hands per hour.

nl really shouldnt be much different, depending on the game youre playing in. thatd be a about 5 big blinds per hour( since there arent really bets in nl) so if youre playing nl200 on party, and blinds are 2/4, thats about 20 bucks and hour, which might not seem like much, but it does add up, so does playin multiple tables. when you consider playing for a "living" playing at medium limits such as 10-20 or 15-30 would yield an hourly rate of 50-70 dollars per table played, 3 tables adds that up pretty fast. 150-210/hour seems pretty good to me, you could expect about that at nl tables for similar stakes with good play

So 25c * 5 * 3 tables = $3.75 an hour /images/graemlins/laugh.gif pretty ordinary wage. But yes I like this number, it does seem to be roughly what I am currently averaging, maybe a bit more.

Anyone beating this significant (long term)?

I think somewhere between 8 and 12 BB/100 hands is reasonable, and that's roughly 5 to 8 BB/hr depending on the speed of the table.

So what about the upper limit? Anyone willing to speculate?
Could an excellent player hope to achieve 15 at best for a long term average? Mere hypothetical /images/graemlins/smile.gif that player certainly isn't me. Thanks for your posts, very helpful.

You need to distinguish what BB means, sometimes that is used to mean Big Bet and sometimes Big Blind.

In limit, one big bet per hour is considered the number to shoot for in B&M games. So, at a $10/$20 B&M game it would be $20 an hour.

With NL there is obviously not a "big bet," so people use the number of big blinds as a measurement. I have heard 10 big blinds/hour as a doable number, but that's a lot more than I make.

I think BB always meant 'big bet,' 2x the big blind. 8 to 12 big bets/100 hands is a reasonable goal for NL.

Hey firebird,

The number currently tossed around here is about 10 big blinds/hr. To answer the question that you posed in a reply, I think that 15 is definitely doable by an expert (I'll say it again: EXPERT) in a medium-stakes game.

I primarily just wanted to reply to stress that you shouldn't get too caught up with these numbers. Post hands and work on your play; the results will take care of themselves. And personally, I don't care what other people make in relation to me, as long as I feel that I'm playing as best as I can.

Best of luck.

> I think BB always meant 'big bet,'

No, sometimes people use it for an abbreviation for big blind, too. The OP mentioned one big blind/hour, I've seen other people confused by this as well.

I thought they were the same /images/graemlins/laugh.gif ooops

so 1 big bet = 2 big blinds? not that big a bet is it? wouldn't fold me out :S

so 5 - 10 big BLINDS is the rough consensus, up to 15 for excellent play?

Thanks people, I was just wondering if i was anywhere in the ball park /images/graemlins/smile.gif I guess I am somewhere in there, which is some pleasant reassurance that my edumication is paying off.
