How is playing at the casino different from at home? If all you've played is NL, what should you do differently to make the smooth transition to Limit? I understand some players just cant handle the transition, but I need to give it a go.

The best way to learn is to practice. Get a microlimit account online ($6 gets you 300 BBs for the $0.01/$0.02 games) and play until you're confident. Be prepared to lose, and don't give up hope if you do, you're paying a small price for your education.

The second best way to learn is to read lots of books and 2+2.

Read WLLHE and/or HEP/TOP. Don't bother with anything 'for advanced players'. It's been my experience that if you understand and remember at least the major concepts of the beginner books, stay patient, and don't get drunk (or at least less drunk than your opponents), you'll be in good position to kill any game up to at least 3/6. Pay attention to the stupid stuff they do and remember that they do these things. Get in when the gettin's good and stay out when it's not - they'll pay you off when you've got it. Be ready to take some ridiculous suck-outs.

The easiest way I know is read a good intro book (I recommend Hilger's "Internet Texas Holdem" myslef... dont let the title fool you its a great intro text on holdem and is better than WLLHE IMO). If you read that a couple of times and get a good grasp of the basics of limit, you should do fine at 3/6.

Just my 2 cents,

What limits are you to be playing? Start low and start working your way up. Obviously buy Ed Miller's book when it comes out and read everything in the two plus two forums.

Pay attention, watch everything. Take mental notes. Watch how players play hands. You won't have Pokertracker to refer to if you aren't paying attention.

For starters, work on preflop play. Which is generally much tighter in a limit game than n/l. That's the big one i've noticed for transitioning. It took me awhile to be able to switch back and forth. Even then, sometimes stuff from n/l will bleed into my limit play and will have to be taken care of.

Get used to not playing many hands. Remember, the better players, if there are any on your table who know this, will wait for you to get bored and loosen up. This could get kinda deep, so i'll stop there. That should be enough to chew on.

good luck.
