Hi guys. I'm relatively new to poker and to SNGs. On UB I was able to turn $25 into about $90 over 20 or so $5+$0.50s. Is this about what I should expect with good play, or am I less than average, or are such returns unusually high? Also, I've seen several posts referring to earlier posts that describe proper SNG strategy. How might I find these earlier posts? Thanks a bundle.

Those results seem extraordinarily high.

your results seem extraordinarilly high.

use the search fuction on the site to search for stuff, but here's some starters:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/favlinker.php?Cat=&Entry=15862&F_Board=singletable &Thread=602767&partnumber=&postmarker=

the first of these may contain a link to the second. if it does i apologize for my laziness. there are other posts in the same line.

these should be a good start.

Outcome is measured into 2 ways generally. How often you finish in the money %ITM, and return on investment (%ROI). For example, your profit is 90-25 = 65. If you've played 20 games of 5.50 your investment is $110. So your %ROI = 65/110 = 59%
20 games is way to small a sample size for knowing where you stand. Your %ITM will fluctuate less than your %ROI. I think reasonable goals for low limit SNG would be %ITM in the 40-45% range, with %ROI 20-50%. Be sure to understand that even after 100 games your ROI will fluctuate greatly, although your ITM should be fairly stable at that point.

Argh. I forgot something. Sorry to be a pain. I've heard about software that you can buy that will help you track your progress and your winning percentages with certain hands, etc. Assuming that the sites don't mind if you use software like this, where might I pick up a copy? Thanks again.

www.pokertracker.com. (http://www.pokertracker.com.) You can try it for 1000 hands of ring. I'm not sure about tournaments.

Poker tracker is overrated for tracking sng progress in my opinion. It is very useful if you see the same players frequently and want to put together good notes but for a lot of us (mostly Party/Empire low/mid stakes players) this is all but impossible as the fish cycle in and out so much and there are so many of them.

Pokertracker is a great peice of software for ring players

I created a sng spreadsheet to track results which you might want to look at. It's free, so that's at least one edge it's got on pokertracker

SNG spreadsheet (http://www.aleomagus.freeservers.com/Spreadsheet)

I agree. I have PT for my ring game play and I use it to capture my tourney stats as well, but I then transfer it over to the spreadsheet since it provides much better analysis. PT shows ITM%, but not ROI (at least, AFAIK).

Okay, thanks Brad. I downloaded the other product before realizing that it doesn't really deal well with UB. Thanks for the help.
