Hi 2+2ers:

Was wondering if anyone on the board is an experienced "Comp Counter" as outlined in Max Rubin's (excellent) book Comp City?

Because poker is such a +EV game for me, thats where I usually spend my time in Vegas, but I'd like to take the non-gambling wife out this fall and I'm thinking of giving this angle a shot rather than just pay regular prices for a nice weekend for us.

While my normal choke point at Blackjack has always been $10-$15 a hand, I could easily secure $5-$10K in casino credit and get up the nerve (this is the tough part I think) to start betting greens and the well comp-timed black or two (gulp)

We're simple folk, just looking for RFL (even just R is fine) and maybe a show or two. With the bankroll and betting greens to start I figure the Orleans would be a good place to start out at since I like it there anyways.

So.. anyone live the comp city life? Anyone try it and have it fail? Anyone have any other advice for me regarding getting more comps than perhaps deserved in Vegas?

Thanks for any responses...

Pack

Don't gamble for comps. It's one thing if you're going to play blackjack anyway. If so, then play at your usual limits and just make sure that your play is tracked. But gambling specifically for comps is bound to cost you more than those comps are worth. I don't think you'll enjoy your $100 dinner nearly as much when you're down $2K at the tables.

I use Casino Comps for my vegas trips and AC. I get the whole RFB's. Your best bet is to either go with Video Poker cause they treat you like a slot player or go with Pai Gow Poker. Dans and i where just discussing this.

I recommend getting a card and playing about 1-2 hours on each card with bad expectations i.e. slots and VP. Then contact V.I.P services and have them look at your info. They probably wont be able to do anything for you right there but they will put you on there mailing service which is just as good.

In A.C. getting a host is the best idea.......

For example..

april 21-25 2004

stayed at the NYNY R.F.B. comped played in a Blackjack tourney 25k event free (had a $500 entry that was free)
$100 free slot play.

july 21-25

got on a Caesars Entertainment mailing list sent me 2 free nights mid week at Flamingo and fri-sat stay free at Bally's......
