I was playing for my first time at a NY poker club, fellow posters Bottleof and Sfer were in attendance. I am playing 5/10 NL with around 1k. Player on my right makes it 60 after one limper(i think), i flat call with AK(mistake?), then a small stacked sb with 425 goes all-in. Orinal raiser folds. The all-in player is EXTREMELY loose. Sfer told me he is one of the biggest action players at playstation. And this was evident by his style(or lack thereof) play that i have seen in the 7 or so orbits i have been present. It looked like a steal attempt with the last remaining of stack. And would I not put this past him in a second. However, maniacs get cards too, and AK vs. anytwo, well I don't fancy that spot too much, while i'll take it, I have some reservations. So it is $365 more to you with AKo and $205 in the pot.

Assuming you are adequately bankrolled for the game and have enough to rebuy, and don't mind dropping an extra $365 in case he does show you a monster..I see no reason not to play AK vs an extremely loose stealer. It's all about variance for people...do you mind playing a high variance game? If you can't handle the swings, don't call...

I agree. Easy call if the SB is as loose as the OP says.

I might add, if you can't handle the swings, not only don't call, but get up and cash out.

i can handle the swings just fine, or i wouldnt sit. but your point is something i should have pointed out. this was my first time at this club, and i came with only 1k to check things out. that throws a wrench into scenario. so its like i have 1k with no rebuy(except 800 from atm) almost a tourney like situation.

In that case fold and pick a better spot. Play a few orbits and see what this guy pushes with....Bring more money next time...

I think you have to call with the $205 dead money already in the pot. Even if you assume the somewhat awful situation of him having a low pair and one of your aces are dead, you are only a 58-42 underdog (while you are getting 570-365 on your money).

Yes, using probability and math to decide whether or not to call...what a total waste of time in this game...math is the last thing you should be using right...i mean obviously...
