I play some online but prefer to play live. I play small no limit tournaments at local bars and almost never win. I go to the gambling boat and have better results at limit Holdem. I have been trying to figure out why and I would like your opinion, because it came to me last night it might be the differences in the game itself. Maybe I am better at limit.

Do you think there is a huge difference in the games?

I haven't played very much no-limit, but there seems to be a pretty big different. Chip-position and the bluff seem to be a much larger factor in no-limit, which changes the character of which hands you can play against which opponents.

The two games are as different as stud8 and omaha.

Tournaments and live games are very different.
No-Limit and Limit are very different.

Put them all together, and you have 4 very different types of games.

This is very helpful because I have been struggling with the fact that I can go play 4-8 or 5-10 at the gambling boat with reasonable results and can't beat a $10 freeze out at a local bar.

Depending on the competition, you can grind out a win at a casino limit game by picking on the fish, and waiting for your cards.

A $10 no-limit freeze out in a bar, depending on the structure, could be a total luck thing, meaning you will win 1 out of 10 times.

That is what I do at the casino. I play tight and let them chase me. I just can't seem to get the freezeouts at the local bar figured out, but if it is as you say, mostly luck, figuring won't apply.

In NL you always have to be thinking in terms of stack sizes. You try to manipulate your opponent so he's pot commited but you're not. You think in terms of how to win big pots. NL tends to have fewer people involved in pots.

As the stack sizes diminish, NL gets to be more and more like limit. In limit top pair/top kicker hands are your bread and butter. In NL that's true if the stacks are small, but if they're deep, they are hands more likely to but you than your opponent.
