Those of you that do not live in the Northeast have not experienced what it is to be haunted by, "Wonder of it All" advertising campaign. To put it simply, Foxwoods uses the same catchy-jingle and puts it all over TV and radio in the Northeast. There is no doubt it works.

However, last week, for the first time, one of these ads was modified to have direct poker room advertising. I heard it on the radio, while in Maine, during a Red Sox game broadcast. With the jingle in the background (of course) a gentleman stated, "See, the wife likes the high-stakes bingo an slots but I have to tell you that's not for me. My game is Poker." He goes on to say how she brings a lucky icon with her and maybe he'll use it a the poker table next time, etc. Then it states how Foxwoods has the largest poker room on the East coast and the only legal one in New England, so come on down.

It was beautiful.

Peace,
Joe Tall

Good Stuff, I look forward to hearing the new ad, as I drive around my block 4 times a week looking for parking /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Are they still trying to pitch their satelites saying things like, "Play No Limit Texas Hold'em just like on TV?" I found that particularly cheesey.

Yes, this is in the radio ad too. It is cheesey but to someone that has never played poker, it may be inviting and that's good enough for me.

That is a swinging tune.

Mohegan Sun has a better advertising campaign which pretty much admits how addictive and exhilarating gambling can be.

Now that Foxwoods is putting some emphasis on Poker, maybe they will hire some people who know how to deal /images/graemlins/grin.gif

the best ad catch phrase i ever heard was when mohegan sun started saying,

come out of the woods, and into the sun

i thought that was great.. too bad the poker room went under. it was a good change of pace

Foxwoods-ers

What are the lists like for 2/4, 3/6, and 4/8 these days on Saturdays, late morning/early afternoon?

Unless things have changed in the last month. FW does not spread 3/6.

Someone who's been there in June could probably better answer your question.

I haven't been in a while, but, they have so many 2-4 and 4-8 games going on the weekends that I'm sure the wait can't be long in the late am. That is when they usually open new games, so the lists move very quickly.

Joe, I drive around all the time for work. I'm suprised I haven't heard it yet. I'm sure the new ad will drive new "fish" into our little stream. Time to go back to Foxwoods to play! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've only been there once. I couldn't remember if they had 3/6 or not. Doesn't matter to me, though. I'll play whichever LL list is shortest.

The other day I heard tom tolbert pitching the Oaks Card club. He also has an afternoon drivetime sports talk show that he co-hosts here in the bay area, so hopefully he'll bring in some more macho sports head types.

Went down to FW with a few friends about a week ago. Got there at about 2pm on a Saturday. There were maybe 5-10 names on the 4/8 list, maybe 10-15 on the 2/4 list. Got a 4/8 seat in less than 15 minutes. One guy in our group was playing 2/4, it took him a little longer but nothing too drastic.

No 3/6 games.

"See, the wife likes the high-stakes bingo and slots but I have to tell you that's not for me. My game is Poker."

If my wife pissed away my winnings at "high stakes bingo" (whatever the hell that is), I'd have to kill her.

I'll go out on a limb to say that I'll be in a coffin before they get someone who knows how to deal! And I'm going to live till I'm a 100.

I know it's trendy to rip the dealers, but I've never thought they were that bad. There's varying degrees of competency, I'll give you that.

What's more embarassing to me is when a regular player berates a dealer for a simple mistake.

The thing with the dealers at foxwoods is that they are systematically slow. 90% of the dealers push out about half the hands that they could if they were focused on the job.

This is not unusual in any profession, most people do not take pride in their work. It is most noticable when you actually do get a good dealer who cranks out the hands and acts in a professional manner.

My thing is, just because nearly all of them are slow doesn't make it right. Top this with the fact that a fair percentage of them vocally express their distaste for poker dealing and poker players during their shift and it is no wonder why people complain.

At most other Casinos I've been to dealer mistakes happen, but they are rare. At Foxwoods they are commonplace. The dealers are also slow and don't pay attention to the game.

I would never berate a dealer. If I were to complain it would be to the management. The management is the problem.

If a dealer sits down and starts bitching right away I have no problem telling them what I think of them. I will also tell the floor since other measures such as not tipping have no effect.

I can accept someone being bad at their job. What I will not accept is someone who is working with the public and acts in a completely unprofessional and rude manner. I've seen dealers sit down, look at the toke box (which had just been emptied) and said "I guess I can't expect much for tipping from you bums".

I've also seen dealers sit down with a bad attitude and when asked why respond with "I hate dealing poker. I'm a craps dealer, poker players are obnoxious".

I've worked in customer intensive industries and there is no reason to act this way. I agree that it is partially the management's fault because they ignore it but that doesn't make me any less likely to tell the source and hopefully make them realize that their behavior is unacceptable.

I'm not an overly demanding consumer, I simply expect people to be courteous, professional and to do the best job that they can. I don't like waiting an hour to get my bill at a restaurant and I don't like waiting 5 minutes between shuffles while the dealer looks off into the distance at a time rake table.

I'm always fascinated with the assumption that when demand for dealers doubles in about a year, that competent dealers are just going to materialize from the ether.

But I do agree that management there is the problem.

Agreed on most points.

Fortunately, I've rarely suffered any of these at Foxwoods.

FWIW, from what I can tell, the average B&M poker player is more obnoxious than the average B&M BJ or Craps player. We just don't need the dealers asserting this, that's all.

Most of the dealers I've encountered at Foxwoods are friendly and good natured. Some subset are new/inexperienced/incompetent, but I've rarely run into outright rudeness or indifference.

One dealer (guy) pissed me off one day, but in all fairness, he was trying joke with me and I was just being overly sensitive. Perhaps if I were doing better that day, I wouldn't have even noticed.

Joe,

That commercial came out several years ago.

Foxwoods sponsors the Mets games here on WFAN, and they play that commercial.
