Hey.

I have no doubt that raising JJ and following up on the flop is +EV, yet i'm thinking in the more loose-bad games at low stakes party it's A LOT more EV to limp with them.

cool, thats what i thought too. that was my default play before this week. how strong should i back it as an overpair on a rag flop? just playing it for set value seems weak, but i don't wanna lose my stack in an unraised pot.

The fun part of limping is when you flop the overpair some party player is never folding his top pair ever while these hand would have folded to your raise preflop (98s 9Ts etc). The don't go bust in an unraised pot isn't much of a worry with this hand against these players, they are the ones more likely to go bust with the single pair in the unraised pot.

The other bonus is your set has a lot of value in this game because they'll go bust with lots of hands.

If anyone has a large (+50k hands) PT database and always raises JJ (maybe QQ if not) yet always limps with 99 i'd be very interested to see the BB/100h for both of them.

Out of curiosity, does anyone call the all-in on the flop? I don't think that doing so is out of the realm of possibility...

I absolutely fold there, 100% of the time without thinking twice about it.

if i knew for a fact that he was a maniac, then i would probably still fold. just too much to risk for a marginal hand. i did notice the flush draw though. it is possible he was semi-bluffing. if so, maybe he will do it next time i have ak(or kk).
