well, I promised myself I wasn't gonna make one of these posts. Turns out I was bluffing.

See, I don't remember things as well as some people. I'll rely on these people to fill in some details. And I should say up front that this will be very very very very long. And not at all short.

The day started with me meeting glen at Commerce, and we jumped into two seperate 40s. My game was great. I lost a few racks. This has been happening a LOT to me recently. Oh well. Then I see mike l., and we chat, then he goes and wins somewhere. But...where's everybody else? We knew that clark, dynasty and NPAEM (Noted Poker Authority Ed Miller) were supposed to be there. glen heard that ulysses was gonna be in town. and i think mike heard that JA Sucker was coming too. I knew that gabe would be there later.

Blah blah blah. We got there. Some of us played. Some walked around. Oh yeah. Sooga was there, too. Yippy. Sooga's my buddy. He's the quiet friend everybody has...the kind that is a high school math teacher, gets hit on by his students...ya know the kind. We're buddies, me n him.

Well, eventually, mike l. and i are in the same 40 game. He's up, I'm down. Sooga's sweating me...or at least trying. See, I'm a semibig guy, and I always have at least two racks of chips on the table. And, well, sooga's knee high to a duck, so it's tricky for him to see. His parents still have a heyday of putting stuff on top of the fridge so he can't get to it. Well, he can't really see my cards, for which i continually apologize. but he's not hearing it.

mike l. eventually raises my SB. Sooga is cheering him on from behind me. mike l. has 63s. I folded preflop. A better hand. Sooga tells me that mike l. is his new buddy. I feel as though a weight has been lifted. Sorry mike l.

But then the talk starts...."hey, we should all get in the same 2-3 blind, $100 max buyin NL game". Oh, and I decided to start drinking. well, clark had racked up and asked me to order him a corona. So I did, but he got one from the bar first. And I ordered myself a little gin drink as well. So I had to drink both, ya know.

And this NL game...well, it seemed that we'd need alcohol there, too. So, once the game started, we sequester a cocktail waitress, order a few drinks (each), then put the cards in the air....

and that's where the clarity ends, and the fuzz begins. I drank another gin n juice and a couple coronas. We introduce everybody to everybody (though we all knew each other)....

Initially, seat #1 was mike l. He's, well....if you think you'd find him likable from his posts, you are way right. If you don't, you are way wrong.

Seat #2 was Dynasty. The last time we played, he lost like 86 big bets. He had a look of "that ain't gonna happen" on his face. I didn't have that look.

Seat #3 was Ulysses, who everybody was calling El Diablo. For those who don't know, that's spanish for "the Diablo". I knew he knew NL, so I figgered I should convince him to drink.

Seat #4 was Josh W., later to be known as "the property owned by glen". He's not very good, contrary to what Andy Fox says.

Seat #5 was initially open, locked for a player with the initials "JB". Yes, it was gonna be Jack Black in our game, but he got into the 10-20 NL game instead.

Seat #6 was Clarkmeister. He bought in with one $100 chip, just so he could smoothly go allin with the flick of a chip.

Seat #7 was Sooga. Clark took to calling Sooga "the best 4-8 player in the country". This is actually an insult, cuz he should routinely be playing higher than he does. (maybe that means he needs a high chair. Maybe not).

Seat #8 was gabe. he was older than the rest of us. he still is. He also plays good. it kinda annoys me, too, cuz we're often in the same game (like, real games in casinos, not made up games like this).

Seat #9 was glen, who then moved to seat 5 when JB didn't take it. glen is staying in LA for a while. I hope he leaves soon. he embarrased me...or, rather, he put me in a spot where i embarrassed myself. tomato, tomatoe.

When glen took 5, NPAEM took 9. Or maybe not. I don't remember. Then JA Sucker joined us from the 100-200 game. he was in 9. Not sure who left. Not sure of much, really.

There were a few hands I remember a little too well. Unfortunately, I can only write about hands that I was intimately involved in. This is for two reasons.

1.) I was drinking, and may not remember details that well. If I wasn't in the hand, I certainly can't remember what happened. And,

2.) I was in every hand.

I was quickly in for $300, but I built it up to about $400. Visions of grandeur turned into visions of "last call", and a handful of more drinks. Mom and Dad, if you are reading this, please know that I didn't drive home drunk. I stayed until LATE late LATE to sober up.

There was the hand i remember bestest. There were X players in for Y bets each preflop (oh yeah, we changed it to a $3-$6 game preflop, NL postflop). I had 96h.

Flop came KJ6, one club, one heart. checked to me, I check, then glen bet $xx. All folded to me. And the pressure was on. I know that i write here a lot about reading hands. I put glen squarely on a hand that beat me, so I called. I didn't know what he had, but implied odds and all.

Turn was 2c, putting two clubs out there. I check, he checked. River was the 6c, putting three clubs out there. And it gave me trips.

I bet out $40. glen paused briefly, then raised allin for $70 more. The pot was $xxx at this point, so I started to think a bit. The Kc was on the flop. I don't think he'd check a king on the turn, especially against "The ATM formerly Known as Josh W.". So I put him on a jack. Well, now I thought he made a flush. So, one of his cards was Jc. The other card...well, he didnt raise preflop, so unlikely it was a tremendous hand, so his other card wasn't Ac or Qc. Tc was also was preflop raise worthy. Next in line was the 9c.

So I asked "whaddya got? the J9c????". I was convinced he had it. So I called. he said "yeah, you are good at reading hands". He showed J9c. i was proud and ashamed at the same time. It's like burping during a hiccup.

OH, there were other hands, too, between me 'n glen. I had 66, and there was action preflop. The flop came T92, and I called a smallish bet by glen. two diamonds on the flop. Turn was the Qd. I checked, and glen pushed. I had just bluffed him out of a pot with 72o. I thought he may have been seeking retribution. I asked him what he had and he said "the nuts". But he said it quickly, and i knew he was somewhat scared. Seriously. To those who were there, they may find this hard to believe. But I really sensed he wasn't looking for a call. So I called. He had J8 for a straight. neither of us had a diamond, and I'm convinced he was afraid of me calling with a diamond.

I think that's a bad call by me. Yep.

Oh, there was one hand I wasn't in. Everybody else was for a bunch of bets. then the flop came 678, with two diamonds. Clark pushed from the big blind for $xx into a (1/4 xx) pot. Sooga insta-called. Clark had 32d, sooga had 54d for a straight. Clark said "ooooh, that's bad". Yep.

then clark had it out for sooga. He stared him down intensely. It was wicked. If sooga had the button or blind, clark called. If clark had the button, he peed his pants, cuz it was the only time he had position on sooga.

Which reminds me of the first hand of the night. mike l. made a preflop raise, called by sooga. They went allin on a 533 flop. River was a 9, and sooga had 99. mike said lucky river. I asked to see his hand, but he folded with serious intent. makes one wonder if he was playing a hand that could make "bottom pair bottom kicker" like 42. Possibly, possibly.

I started to bluff a lot, and got called by king high once or twice. Clark called a big allin checkraise w/ J8 on a KQQ flop when I had T9. I turned a 9, but he rivered a four card flush. Suckout artist.

All in all, I won by losing the most. It was great to see you all.

mike, I hope you had a safe drive home. glen, i hope to see you again. NPAEM, Dynasty, and clark, I hope to see you when I'm out there in a coupel weeks. JA Sucker and The Diablo, it was great meeting you guys. gabe, no you can't have my eray specs. sooga, take some growth horomones.

next time we get together, i may try to play good, just to convince you chaps that i can.

"seat #1 was mike l. He's, well....if you think you'd find him likable from his posts, you are way right. If you don't, you are way wrong."

-I thought I'd find him dilikable from his posts. I was indeed way wrong. One of the nicest men on the planet. Does he still have the Harpo Marx haircut?

"Seat #6 was Clarkmeister. He bought in with one $100 chip, just so he could smoothly go allin with the flick of a chip."

-Remember the W.C. Fields movie where he confidently announces, "I'll take ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS worth of chips," and they give him one chip? Then somebody asks him if poker is a gave of chance, and he says, "Not the way I play it." I never saw the resemblance between Dave and Fields until now . . .

"I was in every hand."

-Glad to hear you filled in for me.

Sounds like you guys played with a 36 card deck without any aces or faces. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

"next time we get together, i may try to play good"

-Where's the fun in that?

Whoa, clark had 2d3d? All this time I thought he went in with 22, which didn't really make a lot of sense to me, but in retrospect, 2d3d makes a lot more sense. Then again, I couldn't really see Clark's hand too well. Those goddamn Commerce employees are really slow with the booster chairs.

This got more difficult as the night went on and you pulled your hood further and further over your face in a vain attempt to cut down on my calculation of the SF.

Last I heard this was not like leading a horse to water, for Ulysses-El Diablo or any other 2+2'er in that group.
