BB - is it Big Blind or Big Bet?

You see BB all the time - which is it?

One instance in part. is 300xBB for a total bankroll. Is that $300 or $600 for a $1/$2 game?

It depends on the context.

If you're talking about winrates and bankroll requirements, it's Big Bets.

If you're talking about position, it's Big Blind.

And if you're talking about NL hold'em, it's also Big Blind.

So if you have a 300 BB bankroll for $1/$2, you have $600, but you only have 60 Big Blinds for the big scary $5/$10 NL hold'em game so I recommend you don't go all-in when you're in the BB.
