Final 3 of a home game tourney

Me (Button) - 120
BB - 130
SB - 50

Blinds are 5/10

I got AQo and make it 20 to go. I'm called by BB who is a loose caller when it gets down to 3 people

Flop comes down QT3

He checks, I bet 10, he makes it 20 to go, I push, he calls.

Comments on my play appreciated

I would have bet a bit more than $10, mabye 20-50. If third place was in the money, I might even go all in. If he is not in the habit of reraising, I would fold if he did.

Payout was 80-40-20 and I didn't care about finishing 2nd versus 3rd.

A number of posts I've seen recommend a standard PF raise to 3x the Big Big blind. The logic is that a raise to 2x isn't going to chase many people who you usually want out of a hand you are raising. (Your AQ does not want JTs to stay in, and a small raise might not get it out. In this case you do not want your opponent to flip JK.) The standard raise also disguises your hand so your opponents don't know whether you are holding QJ, 99 or AA.

Why only the min raise preflop, followed by the min open when you hit TPTK? Were you trying to trap? I'm guessing BB had 33 or T3 and you got popped. You let BB stay in for cheap. Make a larger raise preflop. Just my $0.02.

EDIT: Was this a limit tourney or something?

Think this is fine but I think by his call before the flop and call of your all in he probably had you beat with something like QT would have reraised with KQ or AQ surely and probably with a PP too.

I only had 120 pf so I was down to 100 after the raise. I didn't want to risk more w/AQ pf. On the flop, I definatly screwed up by only betting 10. I should have bet 30 and folded to a reraise. I made the mistake of making a bet that could only be called if I was beaten.

Perfect, except I would have made a bigger preflop raise, inducing him to think I was trying to steal the blinds. Three way, top pair with Ace kicker is a monster hand and the right thing was to push it.
