Tight Weak

I was wonder if someone could give a quick overview of what people mean by “tight weak.” From context, it looks like it has to do with an excessively tight style of play. Why do people ever play tight weak? That is to say, where is the line between tight and tight weak?

I did try to use the search feature on this site, but I couldn’t find any post that clearly answered my question.

Weak-tight is synonomous with tight-passive which basically describes a poker player who is very selective about his choice of playing hands but then does not play those hands aggressively, i.e. does not bet and raise.
