Hello, I am new to the poker world, and have only played in a few home games, which are quite fun. I am wanting to try the real thing in a casino. I am not worried about my play, as I have been reading/studying different strategies, but I am worried about all the little nuances of the game and the "do's and don'ts" in the poker room. Also, what type of bankroll do I need if I am looking to play a 1-3 holdem game.

Hello and welcome to 2+2. We're happy to have you with us. If you're heading to the casino or poker room to play in that kind of game $50.00 should be enough. You could certainly play with more and maybe even less but I think $50.00 will be fine. As far as the "dos and don'ts" go; just pay close attention, bet when it's your turn and not before, if your raising do it in one motion or simply say "raise", take your beats well, and remain friendly to the other players and to the dealers. Very simple formula to having a good time there. Good luck at the tables. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here's a link to some good First Casino Visit (http://conjelco.com/faq/first-time-cardroom.html) info.

I think the best advice i can give is to verbalize all of your action. if you want to raise, say raise, if you want to call, say call. Since you'll still be getting used to stacking and counting chips out, by verbalizing your action the people behind you can act.
good luck, and welcome to 2+2! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

1) it's easy. You'll pick up the nuances in a big hurry.
2) it's fun. Way better than online.
3) bankroll at those limits is small. Buy-in for $100 so you dont get too short-stacked right away.
4) put in your time at the 1-3 or 3-6 and then get yourself into the 5-10 games as soon as you're comfortable. They're more like real poker games. Sometimes they are incredibly loose.
5) good luck.

Could you elaborate? I take your first sentence as saying that anything lower than 5-10 is your typical "no fold-em hold-em," with very loose players and all kinds of bad beats on the river. But then you seem to be saying that 5-10 can be really loose too, so i'm not sure if i'm understanding....

FWIW i'm also a casino newbie (actually a poker newbie), and i had a much more positive second trip to Foxwoods in terms of results than my first trip there. Their 2-4 tables seemed really loose, almost as much as some of the online micro-limit tables! No surprise, i guess.

The hardest part for me, was feeling like i was rushed to make decisions without thinking through them, even though online play is actually faster. Online there always seems to be someone slowing the table down, whereas in the casino i felt like I was that person! But once I realized that I was making mistakes (calculating the wrong cards in a straight draw), I decided to take as long as I needed. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
