There was some... unpleasantness.

His website (http://www.posev.com/) is still up.

I have been told he still graces us under a psyeudonum every now and then. But this is just rumor, speculation and innuendo.

Sredni Vashtar?

No, but Sredni may or may not be a different fabled poster of yore.

I think...

he and Mason had a disagreement. Mason said he could keep posting here as long as he agreed to stipulations that no other poster has ever had to agree to. From what I read (written by Mason long ago, on these forums), Abdul had to agree to discuss only poker and poker related items. This means no sports, politics, religion, stock market, Shana Hiatt, etc.

A loss for all.

What you're saying isn't correct.

On these forums we have posting guidelines that we all must follow. If someone consistently violates these guidelines their privileges will be revoked.

The two main guidelines that we are very conscious of are no personal insults and no initiating of advertising in the posts. I believe that by sticking to this policy it has helped these forums grow tremendously, and we all have benefitted.

It's unfortunate that a few people are unable to abide by these rules, and occasionally we have lost someone who certainly could have made worthwhile contributions. But I believe that the decisions we made were the right ones.

Best wishes,
Mason

I too miss A.J., but I also recall some much more serious hostility. Even touching on blackmail.

***************************************
As I posted previously, I have been living in Ljubljana, Slovenia for
much of the last year. The winter was a bit hard to take, with the
last snow less than two weeks ago. And this language is so hard for me
to learn. But I'm living the dream of a professional nomadic online
poker player, and I look forward to some balmy nights playing poker by
the Adriatic. I don't even bother with travelling to Vienna for live
poker any more, because of the opportunity cost for three hours travel
time each way. Plus, Europeans smoke like there is no tomorrow. So, I
much prefer to play online.

It's kind of old news, but in case you haven't heard, the Slovenian
government is sponsoring a program to train poker players. Slovenia is
a socialist country, at least by American standards, and the government
seems to like to waste money. The government also sponsors billiards
players. The Slovenian poker players have funding for computer
simulations. They get free airfare to travel to tournaments. When you
see them in big games you can be sure they are playing with government
money. The whole thing strikes me as a bit like fusion... sure it
works, but the amount of money the Slovenian government is investing is
far more than the money they get out.

That could change, though, since a big part of the research is bots. I
know at least one bot here is ready for action. Someone here showed me
figures suggesting that as much as 1% of the Slovenian GNP could come
from poker bots playing online poker in the future. I am concerned
that a country (albeit a tiny one) would so aggressively pursue money
that is for some a fun pasttime and for others a serious career.

Are we moderated yet?

Stylistically, the writings of Srendi Vashtar are quite reminiscent of Izmet Fakali, who has also not been heard from in a while. I was not hanging out in poker sites back then, so what I know comes from old postings. Izmet was posting on rgp at the time Abdul was. Don't know if Izmet posted here. Rgp was infinitely better back then, with folks like S&M, Lederer, and Brunson posting there in serious discussions. I recently came across an old thread there involving Izmet and one Gregory Raymer

From what I have pieced together, by one account Izmet Fakali had a daughter named Angelina Fekali. Another story is that Izmet was the elaborately constructed alter-ego of Angelina. In either case, the further gossip was that poker strategy discussions between Abdul and Angelina escalated, to the detriment of his marriage, and he ended up moving to Ljubljana, Slovenia. With Angelina, not with Izmet, given Izmet's stated predilection for sheep.

Any further info/gossip would be of interest. Inquiring minds want to know.

I heard Angelina was the sheep.

I don't know the details but i think it's awful if someone like Abdul who's giving the best advice on the site for free can't also advertise his site in a post. I'd have no problem with it as the benefits overweigh it. If it was more serious than this just ignore me.

I think the same case happen when we all had our sigs removed, lots of people with over 1000s of quality posts should be allowed to advertise their own site/favourite site/affilate deals in their sig because of all the good advice they have given. Yes it was misused by a few.

I apologize if I misrepresented what you said.

I agree with the rules set forth, and by no means intend to say that you should allow personal insults, ads, etc.

But, and I'm darn certain of it, so much so that I actually tried to search for the thread, you stated here (maybe not to him in person) that he could post here if he stuck strictly to poker only. Nothing else.

Man, if I couldn't bash the Lakers, I'm not sure I'd stick around either!

Um, are those guys like the brothers of Stu Ungar and Billy Madison?

Hi Josh:

You need to read things in context. No one is ever barred because they post about sports. That would never be the problem. So if we tell someone that they need to stick to poker, and they were to post about let's say the stock market, then that wouldn't be a problem.

best wishes,
Mason

Hi Gambler:

I just spoke generically about what rules that we are very serious about enforcing. In this case, the problem was not about him advertising his site in a post. In fact, we use to have a link from our links page to his site.

best wishes,
Mason

Seņor Mason,

Would you ever consider having Abdul as a guest speaker at one of your poker seminars? (do you and dave ever have guest speakers?)

Hi dsm:

The answer to your first question is no, and the answer to your second question is that we haven't done any seminars in a while and at the moment have no plans to do any in the future.

If we were to do one and were to have guest speakers, first choice would be other authors associated with Two Plus Two Publishing LLC.

Best wishes,
Mason
