View Full Version : Cryin' kings

20/40 Hold'em (full table)

UTG, a professional player ("pro"), limps. Next to act ("nta") limps. NTA is ok, not bad, but certainly not great--he's a little loose preflop. The very next player, who is solid ("solid"), raises. It is folded to me in the cutoff, and I make it 3 bets with red kings. The BB, who is terrible, calls, and the rest call. 5 players, 15.5 SBs.

Flop is 10 8 4 rainbow. BB checks, pro checks. nta bets, solid raises, I make it 3 bets, BB folds, pro folds, nta calls, solid calls. 3 players, 12.25 BBs.

The turn is a Q, completing the rainbow. nta bets, solid folds. If nta has J9, I am of course drawing dead, but my read is that he has Q10, and thus think that I probably have 8 outs. I call. 2 players, 14.25 BBs.

The river is a blank (I don't remember the exact card, but it was very low in rank). nta bets and I make a crying call.

Results will be put in a separate post.

Thanks for your comments.

Yeah, he had Q10. Bye bye $650 pot.

Haven't looked at the results yet but I feel you played it perfectly. For all the reasons you already mentioned.

Daniel,

I make the same crying call on the river that I expect that you made, given the title of your post(I haven't read results yet). The hand that you're most likely to be able to beat is QJ, would nta play this hand like this?(rhetorical)

I would raise the turn and check behind on the river. This player sounds like someone who would not 3 bet in this spot, and you want to eliminat or charge the 3rd player in a pot this large. I also likely costs the same, but gets you an extra bet when you improve.

There is not a 3rd player in when its his turn to act. The player was in between them and has mucked. If there was a player behind you I would agree with you. But against just the one opponent I would just call him down and avoid the possibility of a 3 bet.

I don't think there's anything you could have done differently.
