Ther had been alot of blind stealing going on when we got down to 4. Should I have avoided the only stack that had me covered?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t300 (4 handed)

UTG (t1540)
Button (t1318)
SB (t2635)
Hero (t2507)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A/images/graemlins/heart.gif, J/images/graemlins/club.gif.
UTG folds, Button folds, SB raises to t600, Hero calls t300.

Flop: (t1200) J/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 3/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 9/images/graemlins/club.gif (2 players)
SB bets t300, Hero raises to t1907 (All-In), SB calls t1607.

Turn: (t5014) 3/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: (t5014) 7/images/graemlins/heart.gif (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: t5014

Results in white below:
SB shows Th Qh (flush, queen high).
Hero shows Ah Jc (two pair, jacks and threes).
Outcome: SB wins t5014.

In general, I think you should avoid this player in this situation.

However, I would often push preflop with your hand here. Since you have him almost covered and put him in serious jeopardy of finishing 4th, he's going to fold just about everything here, and is correct to do so.

I push here 100% of the time. He wont call you unless he has an amazing hand. You will win enough here without showdown.

And if he does call you, you wont be THAAT screwed, most of the time. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

With his all-in bet, I'd be looking for a reason to fold. Maybe he flopped a set, is what I would be telling myself, just to fold.

Ermm, I just reread my post. I meant push all in preflop.

I would probably push pre-flop. The chance that he has you badly dominated is small. There is a good chance he'll fold most hands here (unless he's a maniac). Even when he does call I think you're ahead of a lot of hands (if you're at $20 SnG or less) such as AT, A9, AX, KJ, KT, K9, QJ, QT, etc... that he would make this play with.

You hit the flop decently but he has 3 queen outs, 8 straight draw outs, and 7 heart outs which means he isn't folding here.

I probably call his all-in also. You have a backdoor nut flush, TPTK - it just so happens that he has over a third of the deck as outs AND the possibility that you'll fold - can't blame him for playing it the way he did.

I realize now how the preflop push would have been the best play. After his min bet on the flop was I wrong to push? What should my play have been? Thanks for the help everyone.

No, you are absolutely fine pushing on this flop.

TPTK is going to win here a great majority of the time.

He happened to have a very good hand, but pushing on this flop is not wrong. You can't fold, you can't call.
