There was so much talk in the Democrat primaries about negative campaigning that it was retarded. My basic contention is that there has to be some negative campaigning, you have to criticize your opponents to have a real debate! Obviously, some of it can get pointless and dumb and turn into a smear campaign, but everyone was so against negative campaigning it was absurd.
John Edwards in particular was really stupid. Every freaking sentence this cretin uttered had to have the word "optimism" in it, or "positive politics". I don't think he'd let himself ever speak negatively of anyone he was running against. It was the stupidest thign I have ever seen.
