ok, i read a post from someone with 1000+ posts that says the best hand preflop against AA is a 76s?

If that's true, how the heck???

it makes starights that dont connect with the aces, and flushes

They were wrong - 65s is marginally better than 76s vs AA

See this thread (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=&Number=217577&page=&view= &sb=5&o=&fpart=)

If that's surprising you will also find the worst hand against aces surprising - A9o where the guy with aces has an ace of the same suit as the nine. This makes sense if you think about it but is surprising at first.

This should not be suprising. It's a concept you MUST understand to have any chance of becoming good at Texas Holdem.

Agreed. However the first time somebody hears this tends to be before they understand the game well. Like I said it's surprising at first but when you think about it a bit it makes sense.

How is 56s better than 67s? Weird math LOL. the 5 hits the ace!

For the record, AA is a 76.9:23.1 favorite over 65s (assuming suit is different from either Ace) and AA is a 77.0:23.0 favorite over 76s.

Might be something to do with the fact that to make any str8 you need a 5 or a T? though why it would matter that its in your hand and not on the board I don't know - anyone else any ideas?

the whole 5 or T thing is silly. but what is also silly is that the 56 doesnt need to ace to make a straight and im a total retard.

According to twodimes,

wins / losses / boards / tie

67s 391637 1315168 1712304 5499
78s 391672 1315602 1712304 5215

I agree but can't think of anything else. Its completely unimportant but i am curious as to why the 56 is better. Does anyone know?

Sorry, should point out that I agree the 5 or T thing is silly, not that you're a retard /images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

The A2345 str8 is counterfeited - only the nut straight works. There is no winning wheel - if 2345 comes up, that makes a str8 to the 6 for 56.

As Bozeman pointed out here (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=308760), the 65s has more ties with AA than 76s does. In particular, the boards 6-7-8-9-T and 7-8-9-T-J occur more frequently when the AA is against 65s rather than 76s.
