What factors do you consider in playing these hands to a single raise in the small blind?

So, its raise to you and you have a pair of threes. When do you call or fold? Do you even sometimes reraise? (I wouldn't think so.)

These are the factors that seem you want to consider:
1.) Who is raising.
2.) How many people you expect along for the ride.
3.) Where the raise comes from.

I have been pretty much always playing these and just donating my 1.5 SB. The thing obviously sucks is that when you do hit your set, you're out of position to jam the pot.

Thanks for any responses.

I call a raise if I'm expecting to get 4+ other players seeing the flop. I never reraise from the SB with small pocket pairs.

Hmm yeh less than 4 callers i'd probably let anything under pockets 8s fold. Even then with 88, 99, TT it's an interesting hand to play post flop and you've got to be willing to fold it if you don't hit your set and an overcard flops, unless you've got a great read on the rest of the table.
