View Full Version : I fear for humanity

Doing a little 1am sunday Wal*Mart run, I finish up picking up what I came for and head to the cashier. There's clearly non-affluent couple in the line in front of me. Apparently they were a little overzealous in their budgetting, and had to go through and remove some items from their pile of 20 or so various things. They eventually returned about half of their things to their cart for restocking.

What was the one item that immediatly stood out to me?

This should be easy but it took my g/f 2 guesses.

A gun?

They passed on the diapers, and paid for the beer instead?

The one item they kept, or the one item they returned?

If it's what they kept, I say either liquor or one of Sklansky's books.

Returned i.e. decided that 1/2 of their items were more important than it.

Then I vote for either condoms or sanitary napkins.

A garden gnome? A Brittany Spears CD? Sean Hannity's book?

Vehn, I started to fear for humanity when you walked into Wal-Mart.

These are obviously very disciplined people who will put off having sex until next month when they can afford them. They certainly would not endanger their lives with the possibility of another child.

Vehn, Show them some respect. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Condoms. Obviously.

Maybe they decided to put the smack in their pockets and hope for the best....

I would say something child related. Maybe diapers or formula?

That is the nicest way of saying poor white trash that I've ever seen.

Condoms would have been my guess. Please tell me at least that they didn't have their kids there at 1:00 in the morning.

And what were some of the items that they DID buy then? How about some guesses at that? I'd say one of those cheap $5 no-name DVD's would have been a must buy.

And finally, why the heck is this topic so interesting to me?

You should have realized the EV of the situation and bought the condoms for them.

Obviously doesn't matter but they were non white. I didn't see the condoms until they walked away. Otherwise I seriously would have considered buying them for them. Unfortunatly (and this is pretty bad for a poker player) when I got to my car and on the drive home while I was considering this, I realized I couldn't name ONE other item that they were buying or returning. /images/graemlins/frown.gif Oh well..

Bastard .. my first guess was diapers, my second guess was condoms.
Let's turn this into a family fued type of thing ... my top 5 answers:
Wal-Mart shopbacks:
1 - Diapers
2 - Condoms
3 - Formula
4 - Rx Medicine (especially antibiotics)
5 - Car battery (how could you not buy it if you needed it?!!?)

Anyone else wanna play?

Recently I saw a 15 year old girl in line to get her first drivers license/ learner's permit. Her mother was there to fill out the parental forms etc.... Girl flunked the eye test. Then started giving her mom a hard time because she had been telling mom she needed glasses and mom told her she didn't and was a malingerer, etc... Mom laughed about it. I didn't. I thought of all the crap mom probably did buy instead of getting an eye exam. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

We spend more on our stupid mutt and treat him better than some people treat their kids. We have, in fact, spent money on tuition for the dog. He needed special education classes apparently. Or he is smart enough to know he can run the house without doing what we say. But I do admit we deserve to be laughed at.
