Illunious started a thread a while back in the Texas Hold'em section where he listed all his favorite links on this site. Others supplemented, making it a great resource.

I know it took me a while to venture outside of the MicroLimits forum, so I would be surprised if everyone in here already read it. You can find it here:

Favorite threads on 2+2 (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=560368&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&vc=1), by Illunious.

Over the last couple of days I have practically lived on these forums (one month left until I graduate, and I am getting mighty tired of working on that thesis...). Anyways, I have not posted much, but I have been reading for hours and hours.

I made some notes on my favourite links in the thread above as I was reading them. I guess I am kind of building my own library of the links explaining key concepts in a good way. So just in case you don't want to read through everything I included my brief summary of the topics in each link.

I am sure we can come to understand these concepts by simply playing a lot and posting hands many times per day, but these links often offer the extra insight from the greatest of the poker minds on this forum. My suggestion is to take full advantage... Enjoy!

++++++++++++++++++++

1. AK AQ chasing (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=smallholdem&Number=433788& fpart=&PHPSESSID=), by Norm
Great replies by ElSapo and especially Joe Tall, giving a Standard Operating Procedure for playing overcards when the flop does not hit you.

2. Some questions concerning flush draws... (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=370094&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&vc=1)
Ed Miller has a great reply on the value of a backdoor flush, and how it can change say a high card with middle pair from trash to worth worth playing.

3. Just a bad beat right? (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=459301&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&vc=1), by Sarge85
Ed Millers reply clears up the widespread misconception of "charging flush draws"

4. Huge Pot (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=451440&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&fpart=all&vc=1), by JDErickson
JohnShaft explains the concept of value betting a strong draw.

5. "So I 3-bet to find out where I stood..." (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=523282&page=0&view=expand ed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=1 ), by Ed Miller
The NPA explains why you are often NOT 3-betting for information on the flop as many of us Micro'ers like to think. Also great discussion between him and Vehn on why you should sometimes be raising the turn instead.

6. Why you guys aren't crushing these Microlimit games... (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=micro&Number=462860&fpart= 1&PHPSESSID=), by Ed Miller
Classic thread emphasising why pot size is crucial to good poker.

7. implied odds preflop (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/favlinker.php?Cat=&Entry=11820&F_Board=holdem&Thre ad=315534&partnumber=1&postmarker=)
Dynasty explains very well the difference between pot odds and implied odds to a confused poster

8. Preflop Play: Take off the training wheels (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=&Number=495010&page=0&view =expanded&sb=5&o=14&fpart=1), by Ed Miller
Pot odds is not a consideration when you decide your pre-flop actions. You are concerned with the number of people in, how they came in, and how you rate those players

9. raise jacks out of the small blind? (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=&Number=301785&page=&view= &sb=5&o=&fpart=all), by Bad Beetz
Wow! Awesome thread by many top posters, lead by Clarkmeister, explaining why you are correct to raise with JJ with many limpers. Post flop play is crucial, but its +EV. Another one of my favourites, and an instant classic on the board.

10. Mirage 10-20: Drawing with a gut-shot and an overcard (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/favlinker.php?Cat=&Entry=11805&F_Board=smallholdem &Thread=349811&partnumber=1&postmarker=), by Dynasty
Playing a gutshot draw for a wheel with an ace overcard, Dynasty argues that his ace is a clean out. Sounds very fishy at first, but boy did he make me change my mind. Just something to make you realize there is more to poker than pre-flop charts and standard plays. Also some great discussion initiated by Blackaces13 on playing Kxs that was very, very valuable to me.

11. Low-limit Preflop Quiz (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=565949&page=&view=&sb =5&o=), by Ed Miller
A 20 question quiz on how to play pre-flop in a (very) loose game. Great advice, as always, from the NPA. A must read for everyone in this forum. Also followed by a good (but long) series of discussions.

12. Monthly column in Casino & Gambling (http://www.cgtv.com/games/column/index.shtml), by Ed Miller
Not really a link to these boards, but if you like quizzes the NPA now has a monthly column where you can test your skills on multiple choice problem. Makes you consider every decision point in a hand from start to finish real careful!

13. The damn Fish!!!!! Loose games RANT! (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=&Number=491819&page=&v iew=&sb=5&o=&fpart=), by Joe Tall
Very funny post that should remind us that having bad players in a game is, believe it or not, probably +EV

14. Evolution of a 2+2er (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=&Number=42826&page=&vi ew=&sb=5&o=&fpart=)
Just hilariously funny. Breaks down the stages of development for your typical 2+2'er

15. A trip report I never posted (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=684930&page=&view=&sb =5&o=), by Inthacup
Very well written, and so funny I burts into tears. Make sure you read the replies by the other guys on the trip to!

16. Can Party Poker 4th and 5th street cards be predicted? (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=inet&Number=498421&fpa rt=&PHPSESSID=), by CTV1116
Probably fueled by some discussion about Party being rigged, several posters claim to have a pattern to cards on Party, and many buy into it (look at Jek's reply - seriously funny!!!)

I am just spreading the word around...

There is some great info on this board, we just need to find it! If you have any favorites of your own please post them!

I am inept at searching for threads, but i remember another Ed Miller quiz, where you had to work out win/lose/chop rates for hands; it intended to show when you CAN and CANNOT carry on with Ace-pair, low kicker.

If any master of the 2+2 webwaves wants to dig it out, it'd be some help...

2+2, with the amount of daily posting that goes on and the type of posts, should definitely have a "Hall of Fame" forum, where extraordinary posts are moved to after most of the discussion has finished on them.

I'm a webmaster of a site with thousands of members that has a UBB forum just like these and we have a "Hall of Fame" forum and my members love it. A forum like this would 1) make the posts you want to find easier and 2) ensure that members' hard work doesn't get thrown to the bottom of the post pile.

I'd contact a moderator about it, but I've never seen them post here.

Anyway, thanks for the links, Dieter. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I'll put them in a bookmark folder for now.

Off the top of my head, there are a few other threads I started that I'd add in here.

1. 5 things LL players should unlearn (Small Stakes Forum)
2. A good theoretical question (Small Stakes Forum)
3. Running Bad or Playing Badly (Psychology)

There are others, but those are all I can think of at the moment.

Anyone got links to the ones clark mentioned? The search function is kicking my ass today /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Crap!

When I saved my links I put all of Clarkmeisters posts in one spot, as I did with Ed Miller and the rest. For some reason I didn't see it when I made the post above and they got left out. All three that he mentions are excellent, and should be read.

Clarkmeisters threads can be found here:

Five things LL players should unlearn (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=321233&page=&view=&sb =5&o=), by Clarkmeister
5 plays or situations that beginner players misinterpret, use to much or use at the wrong time.

A good theoretical question (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=287441&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&fpart=all&vc=1), by Clarkmeister
Really gets you thinking! If you don't understand implied odds and reverse implied odds after this you are not paying attention! Excellent thread!

Running bad or playing badly? (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/favlinker.php?Cat=&Entry=11606&F_Board=psych&Threa d=204604&partnumber=1&postmarker=), by Clarkmeister
Loosing streaks happen. Sometimes they get prolonged because the player starts doubting his play, overanalyze things etc. Read this before you make any sudden changes to your game after running bad!

And about using the search function... This forum has the most horrible search I have ever seen! What you need to do is put a + ahead of every word.

Examples of what does not work:
"A good theoretical question"
A good theoretical question

(this last one will give you any post with just one of those 4 words in. And chances are you will find a couple of threads with words like a in there....)

Its really stupid. So what you need to do is input this in the keyword area:

+A +good +theoretical +question

Then you will get the posts with all 4 words. Also make sure you select All Forums, or the particular forum you whish to search. And date range etc...

Dieter,

Thanks, awesome work!! I already had Illunios's thread in my favorites, and of course this one now. Thanks for explaining the search function to me. I consider myself fairly computer savvy but couldnt quite figure this out. Guess I need to RTFM /images/graemlins/smile.gif

The "A Good Theoretical Question" is particularly good for people reluctant to raise their big Aces because "they're drawing hands." They're not. You want everyone to pay for the chance to draw against you.

Mike l's post on the Clarkmeister swings in gambling post is absolutely one of the most hilarious things I have read.
Also while it has nothing to do with micro holdem and probably shouldn't go here, limon's big-bet essays were great.

I co-sign this post.

Both of Clark's posts are ridiculously good.

Oh gosh, THAT thread. It was an honest question and then it just exploded out of control.
