Knowing that I have been way too passive on the river (only a 1.13 agression factor on pokertracker, over 3 on flop and over 2.5 on turn), I went into today looking to value bet on the river as much as possible. The recent threads about value betting the river have helped me greatly and I just wanted to thank the forum. Although I may have just been running good ( I only played 700 hands), I felt like I value bet the river a lot more and my aggression factor was 3.93.

A couple hands from the session. These may seem like easy value bets to most, but I have been very passive on the river.

Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed)

Preflop: TEPop84 TETEPop84%%%%%A/images/graemlins/club.gif, A/images/graemlins/heart.gif. UTG posts a blind of $10.
UTG (poster) checks, TEPop84 raises, CO 3-bets, Button folds, SB calls, BB folds, UTG folds, TEPop84 caps, CO calls, SB calls.

Flop: (14 TETEPop84#####) 7/images/graemlins/club.gif, 6/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 4/images/graemlins/spade.gif (3 players)

SB checks, TEPop84 bets, CO calls, SB raises, TEPop84 calls, CO folds.

Main Pot: 19.50 TETEPop84*****, between TEPop84 and SB. > Pot won by TEPop84 (19.50 TETEPop84*****).

SB shows Kh Jc (one pair, jacks).
TEPop84 shows Ac Ah (one pair, aces).
Outcome: TEPop84 wins 19.50 TETEPop84*****.

That hand had I checked the river, which normally I would probably do, the CO may have bet and the sb c/r and I would fold the winning hand.

Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed)

Turn: (3.75 BB) A/images/graemlins/heart.gif (2 players)

River: (3.75 BB) 3/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (2 players)

Final Pot: 5.75 BB

UTG shows Qh 5h (one pair, fives).
TEPop84 shows Jc Jd (one pair, jacks).
Outcome: TEPop84 wins 5.75 BB.

That was a standard river bet, but one that I most likely wouldn't make.

Hands 2 and 3 standard. Hand 1 is a classic example of a good value-bet and call.

The Turn check is a giveaway far more often than not (hands 2 and 3) so easy to value-bet here. But how many times do I catch myself checking hands like #1? It is soooo easy to lapse into weak-mode esp. on a bad run of suckouts. I think it has been said before but it's worth re-stating: value-betting is part of the bedrock of a winning players armoury. It probably adds 1BB/hr (maybe more).

Hey Nick - you were winning 3BB/hr not making these bets? /images/graemlins/smile.gif The rest of your game has to be pretty strong....

Maybe you wern't running good Nick, you had just selected your table well. SB's who calls 3 bets with KJo and then continues to cold call with dodgy overcards ....well they are a dream aren't they?
A river agg factor of 3.93 - wow thats big. Am I to assume that mine of 1.5 is still way too low?
