6-handed on PP 20-40. UTG limps in, next player folds. I don't know anything really about utg. What should I do with J8s one off the button? Oh the blinds are fairly loose I think.

Easy fold. You have a drawing hand with inadequate effective odds (and no chance to steal the blinds) which is at risk of being dominated. I would also fold on the button in this situation against unknown or typical mid-limit opponents.

Raise or fold, with folding being a better option.

I would fold. It is unlikely a steal will work and there are not enough people to call. Wait for a better hand.

Jack-eight suited is not a playable normally and becomes even less of a hand in a shorthanded game. Being suited does not add as much value in a shorthanded game as it does in a full game. You want high card strength in a shorthanded game. You are trying to build a decent sized pair not a straight or a flush. I would fold every time.

I agree with Jim.

I can't really think of any situation where I don't fold J8s.

CB -

There are a limited number of situations where j/8s is very playable and somewhat profitable. An example would be on the button with everyone limping and no fear of a raise from the blinds.

I am not suggesting that these types of situations are frequent, but rather using this example to illustrate the point that certain hands play well multi-way from the button that you wouldn't dream of playing in other situations.

every once in awhile I will try and sneak in there with a piece of cheese like J-8s. just have to realize that only flopping top pair is not an excuse to automatically pay off. You also have good position and might be able to win w/o a showdown.

Fold. If you're unsure about whether or not to play J-8s, fold it every time.

Jim what would be the first suited connector hand you would play in this spot j9s? 910s? 10js?

thanks

Jack-ten suited for sure. I am not sure about Jack-nine suited.
