I believe there were only 7 players in the first one (1970):

Johnny Moss (Winner)
Amarillo Slim Preston
Brian "Sailor" Roberts
Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson
Walter "Puggy" Pearson
Crandall Addington
Carl Cannon

As far as I know, Slim and Doyle are the only ones still playing.

I had forgotten about the seven-player Series. Didn't they elect a champion?

I was going by the picture in Brunson's book on page 54. The only three I recognize as this year's players are Doyle Brunson, Slim Preston and Mike Cox.

on the Season 1 Tunica WPT they said that Tommy Grimes played in Binions first tourney and i think he plays most events still...
