after your check there is a chance he could be bluffing. I prolly make the call

Getting 8-1 on the call, I think you have to call on the end. I like the check/raise on the flop, but did you ever think about betting out. If you bet out, some people who play any A will raise, allowing you to 3-bet. Just a thought, but I think you need to call the river.

Thanks for the extra info, but I think the call is ok here. I just think it is better to make a bad call here than a bad fold.

I'd imagine he didn't show what he had.

No he did not show. Normally I would call and lose, but I didn't see him calling me down without an ace. I'd have to think he put me on at least a weak ace or better.

Edit: He also beats me with K9 or better.

I wouldn't call here unless my opponent was simply godawful or the pot was on the order of 15:1 or more. In all likelihood, he hit his 5 outer; good fold.
