Here's another hand I wasn't sure of. This tournament was particularly frustrating because (as I was following AM's .DOC 10/1 tournament guide in the FAQ) I never got another playable hand and was blinded to death. I ended up pushing in the BB with Q8o when the blinds were 1/3rd of my stack.

Both hands are fine. I might raise a touch more on the AK (say 150). But with that flop, you're going broke every time.

In hand 2, it sucks to fold JJ. But unless you have a "maniac" read on the raiser, it's usually best to fold.

I've won a few of these SNGs now. They are a nice change of pace from ring games; quite addicting. I get an emotional chargeout of the requisite and successful aggression too.

Anyway, here is another ahnd I wanted advice on. It was pretty early in the tournament, and I felt like it crippled my stack. I ended up stealing a ton of blinds when it got down to around 5 players though, as everyone tightens up like a vice. Got lucky hitting my kicker on a dominated hand, played very aggressively into people who seemed willing to fold alot, and eventually came back to win. Money won is twice as sweet as money earned, but money both won and earned is like x^2!

It seems like your out of position preflop with AJ. I prefer to raise to 90 if you play it. Post-Flop seems OK. You just kind of trapped yourself on this one.

I have some, not a lot experience playing SNGs, and I would say, the most important thing is to survive.

AJo, call or fold in Early Position.

The AK hand, there was not much escaping for you, bad beat.

Apart from that I beleive there is an SNG playing FAQ here, search for it and following it should atleast take you to the final 4.

Bad beat? He was ahead with 88 preflop....

I know AJo is looser than the FAQ says I should play. That's why I raised a more than the traditional 3xBB. I was really hoping to just grab the blinds and the limpers' money and be done. I didn't want callers nor did I want to see the flop. I guess the strategy backfired, because like was said, I sort of trapped myself.

Once at the flop, should I have not semi-bluffed the flop? If I'm behind a K, I have 12 outs to A and flush, if I'm behind two pair or a set, I have 9 outs to the nut flush, if I'm behind a flush I have 7 outs to the nuts, and if my opponent has nothing I can steal my tiny pot and be done with it. I was hoping the monotone flop would scare off small or medium pairs too, which further encouraged my semi-bluff.

That .DOC file I mentioned is great with it's preflop directions (I will stray less in the future!), but I'm a bit clueless what to do when called, and the concepts regarding bet sizes in post-flop play are unknown to me.

Also, I'm no expert at hand reading, but it's hard to beleive my opponent has a flush here, since I have the A, the K is on the board, and he called a 4xBB pre-flop bet. I know I am a newbie and have much to learn, but no matter how much experience I get, and no matter how much better I get at hand reading, I can't imagine there's anyway I can put my opponent on Q7s here. /images/graemlins/frown.gif
