5/10 on party

I get 88 in the natural big. UTG+1 raises at full table. Folds around to me. I....

(No read whatsoever except that I now hate this table)

at best you're about even money, at worst you're a big underdog. You're getting almost 3.5-1 on your call. I call here and see what the flop brings.

I'd fold. With no reads it's difficult to gauge if you're already dominated or not (which is very possible). Basically the only out here is hitting an 8 on the flop, even if the flop comes all rags, the raiser could be LAG and make postflop play very tricky.

With no read, I fold. You might have the best hand but are easily outdrawn. You probably won't win much either when you do have the best hand. I'm not sure about hands like 99 and TT though, although they seem the same /images/graemlins/confused.gif. You also don't have position.

Against a typical player, I call the raise, then check-raise the flop unless an A, K, or Q flops.

but I'm over-aggro

Call.

(No read whatsoever except that I now hate this table)

1 - you should be wary of the raiser, everyone else is, that probably means that he is someone that plays like you do.

2 - you should just have loosened your open raising standards, you can win a lot of money by winning more than your share of the blinds. It just comes in smaller pieces.

3 - If you don't learn how to beat these tables now, you will when you have graduated out of the SS forum. It will be a lot cheaper to learn now, then at 20-40.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

There's no way I'm folding.

at best you're about even money, at worst you're a big underdog.

That only matters if you are both guaranteed to see the river, like if you are both all in preflop. That's not the case here since you are going to fold your 88 some of the time when there are overcards on the flop and more importantly he's going to fold his unimproved AJ or KQ or whatever before the river a significant portion of the time.

Folding any pocket pair against anyone headsup from the BB is, ummm, bad. (There, I answered two threads with one post.)

There, I answered two threads with one post.

And in two different forums. You're good.

How do you feel about a re-raise preflop with no read?

Guido, I *physically* enjoyed the Avatar you used for your posts. Where can I find more like this???
