Im thinking of buying a new laptop....Im comfortable with the requirements i need, but Im interested on screen sizes for multitabling. How satisfactory is 1400x1050...does it fit 3/4 tables with room for some GameTIme PTracker windows? I understand some Dell's can go to 1680x1050 or even 1920x1200...is this overkill?

cheers

For Party, you need a screen resolution of 1600x1200 to fit 4 tables without any overlap.

I have a Dell 20" FP on the desktop. I can't handle 4 tables, but the display can.

The real question is dpi, and absolute screen size. The Party Poker table is 800x600, I think. So, you can get 2x2 tables at 1600x1200.

If you choose to run large fonts, there'll be some extra black border that swells the image to 908x706, which you end up moving around all the time.

Small fonts on a 15" FP at 1600x1200 are too tough on middle age (and some younger) eyes.

The newer 17" FP displays are wider, not taller, I think. They'll give you a little more room on the ends, but not really increase the basic table size.

XP has Clear Type, which helps.

Good luck if you go that way.

I'd fully recommend the Dell Inspiron 8600, which has the option of 1900x1200. I can easily fit 4 Party windows and still have an IE window next to them.

I can easily see the cards, and my vision is not awesome. The screen brightness and cleartype makes it much easier.

Hope this helps.

i do okay with my dell 5100-inspiron...1400x1050

there's overlap on the tables but nothing too terrible.
i set up a 2nd monitor for p-tracker and e-mail and 2+2 surfing. if your work is constantly getting covered up by the tables screaming at you to make a play, then i highly recommend setting up a 2nd monitor as an alternative to the 1900x1400 screen-res option.

also .....i didn't know that the black-border was due to font-size. i'll try changing that and see what results.
thanks for the tip.

Agreed, I have the same one, but I think I only have 1600x1200 which is perfect

Are there any inexpensive (sub-$1000) laptops anyone can recommend that can run at 1600x1200?

buy a used one on ebay from someone with a lot of good feedback, you'd be doing fine to give up on processor speed and pay less
