View Full Version : Juicing rebuy tournaments which have guaranteed prize pools

I was sitting in a rebuy tournament where there are not enough players to reach the guarenteed prize pool.

At my table there is a player who is rebuying up to double the buyin then going allin on EVERY hand, without exception for the entire rebuy period.

I had a thought that maybe this player was a prop who was juicing up the table to make the rest of us rebuy more (there is a fee with the rebuy) so that the poker room takes more money.

This seems like an obvious thing for a poker room to do, after all they are going to have to put the money into the prize pool anyway.

I asked him if he was a prop and he did not reply (he was otherwise quite chatty)

Anyone know if this is ever happens?

I have no actual evidence but I agree it would make sense in this case and some others.

A prop uses his/her own money and also doesn't get paid for tournament play.So i doubt that's the case.

Maybe a shill,who uses the casino's money,but not a prop.

name the site and we can guess better.

as stated, prop no way. shill, maybe

My guess is P*'s. There have been instances where they don't have enough to cover the guranteed $. Probably a 11+1 with rebuys 20K guranteed.

PokerStars does not use props or shills (http://www.pokerstars.com/faq.html).

You believe everything you read? Ever see those guaranteed tournaments during the final stages of registration @ poker stars? About 400 people register in the last 60 seconds. You do not find that a bit odd?

sorry about the misuse of terms I stand corrected on the shill/prop.

So nobody knows for sure if this *ever* happens?

i don't find it odd at all. it seems as though a lot of people wait until the last minute to register because they want to see if there's gonna be an overlay. hahaha..

I never stated nor implied that pokerstars uses props/shills. Granny asked, and I made a guess as to which site t perkins was refering to in his post. I know that he is a player on stars and felt that this was the site in which he was making a reference.

The fact that he plays there, and the fact that I have played in several of their 11+1 with rebuy tournys where the guarantee has not been reached led me to this "guess".

Hmm, that sounds very much like the strategy I use in those rebuys tournaments (which perhaps explains the shrinking of my bankroll lately) and I am nor a prop nor a shill.

But thanks the same for revealing the winning strategy to everybody Tim, some friend you are /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have never seen Stars $11 tournaments where the guarantee has not been reached. Care to give a date?

There are sites that use props (UB & Party) and they openly state this. So it's not a big deal. Why would Stars explicitly lie and risk getting caught if they were using props or shills?

I've done/do that in satellites where I have tourney bucks already (such as W$ tourney bucks).

You'd be suprised at how effective it really is. You piss away a lot of chips to the table at first, but then when you do find a hand everyone calls and you now have a huge stack that otherwise wouldn't be possible.

Are you suggesting that I stuck words in your mouth? It's hard to tell, but your post was in reply to mine.

don't remember the exact date....it was at least a couple of months ago. The buy ins and add ons did not meet the 20K....if I remember they (stars) only had to pony up a few hundred.

Sorry if I was wrong....the fact that you had my name in the RE: as well as posting directly below me made it appear as if you were responding to my post.

I'm not replying to anyone inparticular but use your sherlock holmes skills on my original post and you should be able to either confirm or deny that it is Stars .

Anyone able to tell me why? /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/tongue.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

He really was going all in on EVERY hand, not just a lot of hands.

Someone reckoned that he had rebought at least 51 times. That sounded about right.

At the end of the rebuy time everyone at the table had 3 - 10 times the average stack size. It put us all at a huge advantage to the rest of the players. Especially as the table immediately split after the addon.

Shilling in ring is one thing, they are risking money. Shilling with money that the poker room has effectively already given away I think is pretty wrong, suppose he had won the tournament?

But it seems that nobody actually knows that this happens for sure, which I would guess someone here would know. So my guess is that this guy was just an idiot.
