I'm playing in the $30 party with 813 people. This is only my 5th NL tournament, and so far the deck has hit me in the face. Any 2+2ers want to watch, and tell me how I blew or dominated it? Partypoker name southern58

Thanks to everyone who dropped in on me. I ended up taking 5th, so I walked away happy. As much as the deck was helpfull for the first two hours, it was just as cold at the end, eventually just blinding me down at the final table. This was my final hand of the tournament, I was wondering if people think its the right play or not.

Congratualtions on your impressive finish! I checked in on you off and on for awhile while I was playing ring, and your play looked superb. It seemed like you weren't getting too many hands near the end, but you were patient and selective, and did a great job hanging around, which is what it's all about.

You could have gotten a little more active earlier when you had a big stack- made a few more blind steals- but that's a small small criticism. The hands I saw you play postflop, you did great- a couple nice check-raises, confident betting, and avoided the traps. Your blind defense seemed just right, too. Seriously, you can't do much better. If that was truly only your 5th NL tourney, then you've got a future. Good job.

Thanks for the kind words. Well, I've been playing a lot of limit multi table tournaments, and used to play the NL SNGs, so between the two I have some nice experience. I agree I wasn't stealing enough, I'm still trying to find the balance between stealing enough and too much. Last tournament I was in, I tried to steal too much, so I was reluctant this time around.

A couple other hands I had questions about...

I folded, not sure if its the right play or not, I just folded cause it doesn't really do well hot and cold against the hands that would call me.

1st hand: That's a close one. KQs is pretty strong 7-handed, and an UTG raise from you to even 2x the BB is going to scare most hands (I can't imagine anyone trying an over-the-top move without the goods), so you'll win the blinds a lot. But you're right that it's prone to being dominated. I would probably raise to 12000 50% of the time, and fold the other half- depending on what kind of rhythm I was in at the time. The fold certainly isn't wrong.

Hand 2: Good. If your question was about whether to bet the river, absolutely not. Some players would bet the flop when checked to, but that can lead to trouble. Playing the way you did can set up a bluff later against that opponent.

Hand 3: I remember this one. You had to love seeing that jack hit the turn! I like your push there, especially if you had seen UTG make some loose/steal raises before. His call with 33 was pretty awful. Nice hand.

And your bustout hand with 44 was fine, too. You gotta push with any pair at that point.

Was it just me, or were there a LOT of pocket aces being dealt at your table(s) all night?
