Please help a newbie with betting strategy!!

PP $5/$1 I am UTG on the second hand and am dealt A /images/graemlins/club.gifQ /images/graemlins/club.gif

I raise to 4BB and get two MP callers. Did I bet too much? Not enough?

Garbage flop of 8 /images/graemlins/club.gif3 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif4 /images/graemlins/heart.gif.

How much to bet here?

2nd hand of tourney?

Assuming that to be correct a pot sized bet here is in order.

The correct play changes as stacks, reads, and blinds change.

Hey Drew

I think you spent too much $$ here when you entered the 5+1 instead of the 10+1, you spent 50c too much on the vig. You gotta play the 10+1 SNGs and quit paying 20% vig.

That said, your raise is OK preflop. Don't raise any more than about 4x the blinds at a full table with AQ or TT or the like, cuz you'll often only get action when you are beat. You were ok here tho, especially if it was early (you didn't specify what level).

On the flop, if you want to take the pot with a bet, it needs to at least be a pot sized bet, if not more. Given this was a small SNG, you might wind up getting called anyway tho, as those players often call with anything, even stuff that would hit that flop.

Hey Drew, if you wish to play in the Super-Genius Invitational, you are welcome. 196 post, not bad hoss.

According to you two, my next move was right, as I bet the pot.

UTG+2 called, MP1 folded.
Turn was 2 /images/graemlins/spade.gif and I checked/folded to a bet of t100.

With four outs to a non-nut straight and 6 outs to overcards, should I have bet out? Or maybe check/called the t100 bet?

How's the competition at 10+1? 5+1 seems fairly weak, and I am confident I can beat them once I get a handle on the betting strategy.

Very similar.

the competition is identical but the vig is 50% less.

first yeah no reason to play a 5+1 when you can play a 10+1 for no extra fee...second i dont think its the best idea to raise 4BB with AQ...depending on the table sometimes simply calling can be right or a smaller raise.

I wouldnt feel real good if I hit my ace. People play Ax so much at this level it is very possible that would give them 2 pair.
