looks like the complete WSJ article doesn't come up. There were anecdotes of high rollers showing up, losing fast, getting comp'd and rebated so much that they were actually net up, then cashing out and going to another casino for another deal--working it.

My husband worked at Caesar's Palace for 20 years. During that time, he saw many rich and famous people roll through the joint. Of course, not all of them were as rich as Ray Zee or as famous as Dynasty and the Babe /images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

Guys like Larry just enjoy playing for high stakes and don't really care too much about losing. They enjoy hanging out with the rich and/or famous. The "challenge" of beating their opponents at games of skill is really not what motivates them. It seems it's only the desire to be associated with the "in crowd" that appeals to guys like Larry and Andy Beal.

Larry Flint played mostly blackjack at Caesars for many years. From what one experienced observer notes, Larry Flint did not seem to be a winning player. That is all I can say here.

Today I was walking to Binion's from the Nugget poker room with Tommy, Barry, Jay Celesti and Ed Miller. As we passed the high limit blackjack area, I noticed Larry playing on a reserved game with a lady by his side. I wonder if my team should have ponied up our pennies and tried to get in a game with him. /images/graemlins/cool.gif We aren't rich, but we are famous, afer all, eh? Did not know that. That is a big accomplishment. He cant be that bad a player if he plays day in day out with the best players in the world. But you know what they say, If your the tenth best player in the world.......

Interesting that baccarat is more than 10% of all Las Vegas winnings...aren't the slots like 70%, so baccarat is a large fraction of all pit earnings? I didn't realize casinos were that dependent on a few high-rollers.

Baccarat has no skill at all, and no matter what players do the house edge is only around 1%, so the distribution of winners and losers will be only slightly less than 50%-50%. So giving a 20% rebate to the losing players is downright idiotic - maybe it would make sense in a game with a higher house advantage where the casino could be assured that most players would lose over any significant session, but not here.

His quotes on BJ in the article make it very clear he is not a winning player. And very misguided if he believes he can be a winning player with just basic strategy.
