Just started playing a few MTT's, and doing OK. Busted out 177 out of 500 or so on this hand. Opinions?

Well, you're not exactly stealing blinds when someone raised UTG. I drop the 5s here, you're not getting the implied odds if you hit your set. Now, if you were the first one into the pot, my action, depending on the table, would be raise to 300 and either take the blinds, see a flop, or fold to a re-raise. I don't think you're short-stacked enough to open-push at this point. Look for a better spot.

I don't feel the need to make these moves, and I seem to do fine in MTT's. What's the point?

Muck w/out a second thought.

as a side note: I never do this, but a minimum raise UTG always raises a red flag for me. I find that many times, this is a group 1 hand.

Have you read Tournament Poker for Advanced Players by Sklansky? If not you should read it. He outlines some really important concepts for tournament players, like the Gap, that would have made a difference in this situation... Even if I hadn't read the book it still seems like the reraise all in is a little too strong. I agree with the other posters that the raise UTG is a sign of real strength.

With this raise, from this position, I'd say your all-in will be called nearly 100% of the time and you'll often be a big dog. Do you really want to go out with a pair of 5s at this stage ?

Thanks for the input all. Appreciate your help. Now if I was only less lazy and would post more of these.
