"A couple has been ordered not to conceive any more children until the ones they already have are no longer in foster care. The mother waived her right to a lawyer, and the father never showed up in court.

A civil liberties advocate said the court ruling was 'blatantly unconstitutional'. The mother was found to have neglected her four children, ages 1, 2, 4 and 5. All three children who were tested for cocaine tested positive, according to court papers. Both parents had a history of drug abuse.

A case worker testified that the parents ignored an order to get mental health treatment and attend parenting classes after the 1-year-old was born."

Agree or disagree with the judge's decision?

Given these facts, the judge's ruling is not unreasonable. And the parents can take positive actions to reverse the ruling - by becoming responsible parents.

Are we in favor of bringing kids into the world that we know will be drug addicted, neglected, and dumped into foster care?
If we are, then one of the good arguments for being pro-choice goes away.

The ruling is ridiculous simply because it's unenforceable. Better they be put in jail for child neglect/abuse.

What rational person expects them to obey the ruling?

On the outside chance that this couple may in fact be your parents I must wholeheartdly agree. However in this case it might be closing the barndoor after the horse has already escaped. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
