Most players who hit a big hand in these spots (like the nut straight or a set) go for a slowplay of some sort. The 3-bet on the flop makes me think he either has top pair, or possibly a two pair. You win against an eight, and have some outs against a two pair (depending on which two). He might have 99 or possibly TT...but again. I think you'll either be ahead or draw out, often enough to call down.
