View Full Version : O/8 NL 1 Table - How bad were my plays?

I tried my first NL O/8 1 table tourney in a Florida Indian casino. After watching a few tournaments, I thought the players were terrible and wanted to give it a try. $135 entry, 10 players, pays top 3. Start with 1500 in chips. Antes start at 50-100 and double every 15 minutes.

The game seemed to be lots of limpers then action after the flop. There was only one pre flop raise - for 2x BB, in the first 15 hands.

Antes are 100-200. I'm BB and post 200, leaving me with 1000T. 5 limpers to me and I look at A2s34. I raised, but only to 400. I felt this was a terrible play, but what the table was doing /images/graemlins/tongue.gif. Should I have raised to 600, pushed or just checked?

All 5 limpers called! Flop comes Ad2cJc. With 2 pair & draw to nut low, I put in my remaining 600. Was this good, bad or ugly? Got 4 callers, 3 all in.

Turn 3c, river 8d and I'm toast to 7654 with 2 clubs!

I am open to advice since there is a lot of $ with terrible players waiting to donate - or am I one of the donaters /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I think considering the structure you might as well be playing slots.

I understand this is not the best structure. My problem is this is what's around and I would like to maximize my % when I do play. After all, poker slots are beatable, so the question is what to do in the situation.

The turn was pretty much the worst possible card for you, counterfeiting your low draw and hosing your 2-pair.

If I'm in the BB with this hand, I'd rather see the flop cheaply with a lot of limpers, planning to push in on the flop if it's favorable. Great low/marginal high is not a combination I want to take hot and cold for my tournament life.
