As you can see, newbie poster here, so please be gentle! Playing this hand back I reckon I should have backed off when the turn card fell... how would you guys have played it?

MP1 is a maniac, betting, cold calling and even raising with junk hands.

After the eight falls, I would bet and then go into call-down mode if raised.

exactly my thoughts. Hopefully you pair the board on river and can go to town on him.

sorry, pet peave, but you have a "set" not "trips."

FWIW I agree with bison and JD

Actually, it's a "set of trips" so trips is accurate although most people think of two on the board when they hear trips. Not that it makes a difference.

Dude, you need to slow down when your opponent gets all happy with a four-straight out.

My sentiments the same - when the turn is 4578, you have to bet out and if raised, the guy will have a 6 at low limits. Just call down turn raise and check-call river unless the board pairs.

Thanks for the feedback. I normally don't raise enough - guess I was overcompensating this time!

Agree I should have given him credit for the 6 once the turn 8 fell, but what if it had been something more innocuous and he kept betting; would check-calling still have been the right move?

At least I've encouraged him to keep playing that 63o.
