I'm coming to Vegas in a few weeks, and on the slight chance that I won't get a seat in the big one(insert sarcasm here), i will be looking to play some side games. I'd like to know what limit I could try playing without being totally outclassed if I play 15/30 online. I also would like advice on where to play.

a question and an answer

1.) I know you just started playing the 15 online, how confident are you that you'll be the game long term?

2.) Live games, by general rule, are much easier at the same levels. The 15 game at the bellagio is very beatable and I hear good things about the 20 at the mirage on here.

Good luck. Don't let boredom set in. You said you had trouble playing only 2 tables at 15/30, that's about 130 hands/hr, no you'll be getting 35-40.

David,

I just got back from Vegas, and luckily won a spot, but the majority of the time, I was playing limit at the Bellagio. The nighttime 30/60 games seemed to be about the same level of fishiness as the nighttime Party 15/30.

3 or 4 to the flop usually, with about the same level of aggression.

Maybe some of thie regulars will disagree but that was my experience in the short time that I was there.

One trick that I tried, which the forum may or may not approve of was making 1 or 2 advertising plays at the beginning of my sessions. After that, even the pros there paid me off nearly every time I had a hand.

If you play NL well, the Horsehoe 2/5 gamed seemed to be quite juicy as well.

I'm very confident I'm in that game for a while now. I've had very good results again this week, despite some long runs of bad cards. THere are just as many bad players here as there were at 5/10.

I don't think the rate of play will bother me too much. c'mon, it's Vegas baby!!

The 15 games at Party are much better than the 30-60 game at the Bellagio.

Do you mean the 30/60 game at Bellagio is tougher?

David,

I have logged substantial time at the Bellagio 15/30 and Party 15/30. My win rate per 100 hands is slightly higher at the Bellagio. My standard deviation is much higher at Party (about a 4 BB/100 hands difference).

In terms of per hour win rate, it's no contest. Party wins, hands down.

Try the 30-60 at binions. After 9 PM the game loosens way up and becomes very soft. The games during the day are really tight, average players post flop but tight preflop.

If you want some real fun, try the Mirage 10/20 game. After playing Party 15/30 and your other Party shorthanded play, you should mop up at those tables. Most of the players are weak/tight, and will typically cave in to any show of aggression. You will see a few live ones from time to time, but for the most part it's weak/tight.

Send me a PM before you get into town, and perhaps we can hit the tables together.

Just curious, what's your BB/100 rate at Party 15/30?

Why would you ever ask someone that? I know people love to talk about their stats but it seems pretty presumptuous to ask a specific person about their win rate.

Clarkmeister,

You must know what the side games are like during the WSOP. WHere can the good games be found?

I sure hope to meet you while I'm in town.

Right now I am playing at the Nugget in the 50-100. The 20-40 there has looked very good there. I'd try there and put up with the inexperienced (very slow) dealers.

The Shoe has been getting one 30-60 going every night but its been spotty...sometimes good, sometimes terrible. One game earlier in the week had myself, Coilean and Barry Tannenbaum in it. Not a good game. The Shoe has had multiple good looking 15-30's and 20-40's going, so its a decent backup for the Nugget 20-40.

The Mirage has been a graveyard. I haven't bothered to go to the Bellagio. I usually only go there for the 80-160 but with the good 50-100 at the Nugget, that's been unnecessary.

Great. I'm at the Mirage for 5 nights and the Bellagio for 4 nights, all on the poker rate. Ruh Row.

David-

You should have a good time with the 15/30 at the Bellagio.
Also 20/40 Mirage and any equivalent games at the Shoe and Nugget currently going on should be fun for you.

It's slighly lower than my B&M 15/30 rate/per 100 hands. I don't like to discuss the actual numbers, except for the standard deviation.

I just got back from Vegas (about 2 hours ago) and played mostly at Bellagio. The 15/30 games were by and large pretty good. As Clark mentioned, Mirage was dead all week but the games at Golden nugget were pretty good. A buddy of mine is one of the few english speaking dealers there and mentioned that there were good 20/40 and 10/20 games all week (I only played there a couple of days real early morning when it was mostly dead). I say Bellagio would be your best bet because of game selection.

good luck,
j.k.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be presumptuous. I was just curious because I have just recently started playing 15/30 and my win rate so far is much lower than at the 3/6 or 5/10. Obviously, that is to be expected. But I was just wondering what I should expect if I eventually played as well as the better players on this forum, and to gauge how far away from that I am.

Sorry if it sounded presumptuous.

I was just in Vegas too, and that Horseshoe 2/5 game wasn't even slightly good when I sat in it. (admittedly, early in the day). I'd taken a beating the previous night and decided I'd start the day with something where a bad hand doesn't cost me two grand. We started the game, and ran it four handed for about an hour, with a total of two flops.

Every other hand was just a blind steal, or on occasion, a steal and a re-steal. I was told that the previous night it had been thousand dollar pots, rammin and jammin, but no evidence of that while I was there.
