I have a seat in the 2004 WSOP. I've been playing hold 'em a few years and guess most would consider me "dead money" in the tourney. My immediate focus is to survive the first few days of play when the maniacs are still alive. Any suggestions on just
hanging around until the number of players becomes a bit more manageable?

Play very tight, especially in early position.

Making it past the first day is impressive on its own. Good luck.

Don't be afraid that you are dumping the best hand when it will cost you substantially (or an all-in call) if you are wrong. If you raise preflop with KK and get a call and an ace comes up and your caller now bets at you, this is not a tournament to call all-in early to see if they really have an ace. IMHO this is a good time to prudently dump the hand. This is an extreme example, but my point is that it is usually better to swallow your pride and take a little loss than risk everything and be out of the tourny. Also, no sense playing many draws unless they are real cheap - AL
