Okay guys, today I sat down at a 2/4 table with only one familiar player. The conventional wisdom is that by the time you see 2 rounds, you should have some kind of idea of who each player is. The looser the player, the more info you should have.

So, here are my first two rounds at the table. I want you to read through the hands and give me your player reads.

The players are as follows:

Hero
Blitzen
Comet
Cupid
Doc
Donner
Hutch
Larry
Moe
Optimus
Prancer
Rudolph
Sneezy

For some of these, you may only be able to say "tight" or "passive", but for others, you should know quite a bit more. The idea is not to criticize everyone's play in every hand, but to let each hand's play coalesce into a description of each player.

As for how I feel about my play in these hands: I butchered hand 16. I think I feel alright about most of the others.

Also, this is my first time putting together something like this, so if the idea sucks, let me know.

[The hands are in the next post]

Other possible questions include:

1. Is this a good table? (i.e. should hero spend more time here?)
2. If you were a spectator, who would you want to sit next to?

Hero - I'm going out on a limb and saying weak tight /images/graemlins/wink.gif
Blitzen - loose calling station
Comet - sat at table for 4 hands, seemed passive
Cupid - sat at table for 2 hands
Doc - tight aggressive
Donner - tight passive
Hutch - weak tight
Larry - semi-tight aggressive
Moe - most likely tight aggressive
Optimus - has the coolest name
Prancer - loose aggressive
Rudolph - loose
Sneezy - tight aggressive

1. This is a pretty decent table, I'm not leaving quite yet even though Prancer is gone
2. I would sit on Prancer's left and isolate him all day

I like this idea bison, it will be good practice for everyone trying to improve their reads.

Btw, where is hand 17? I'm assuming you meant hand 16.

Yeah 16. No hand 17.

1. By the end of these hands, the complexion of the table has changed. It is not nearly as good as it was when you first sat down. Still not a bad table, but when Blitzen leaves after hand 15, I would be tempted to see if I could find him somewhere else. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

2. Sick puppy that I am, I would probably want to watch either Prancer or Blitzen.

One thought as I went through the hands ... I might have 3-bet Prancer on the river on Hand 9. Depends on my feel when actually playing it, but when reading it I expected you to win there.

no time currently...but looks very interesting.

i'll be more interested to look at examples of how you played your hands here then i will be to try to read everyone else...although that part of the exercise seems worthwhile also.

One thought as I went through the hands ... I might have 3-bet Prancer on the river on Hand 9. Depends on my feel when actually playing it, but when reading it I expected you to win there.

Although Prancer is pretty LAG, I don't think I'd 3-bet the river either.

Rudolph -- loose, lean toward aggressive
Blitzen -- calling station, my new best friend
Prancer -- LAG
Comet -- passive
Doc -- TAG, might lean weak-tight
Hutch -- reasonable, maybe weak-tight
Sneezy -- TAG
Moe -- seems reasonable
Larry -- aggressive

My notes after looking it over quickly one time:

Blitzen = Calling Station, Loose Passive. Wont raise without a hand thats going to beat TPTK

Rudolph = LAG (?)

Prancer = Loose

Comet = Calling station

Doc = Tight Aggressive

Moe = Rock garden? Weak tight?

Larry = LAG

Hutch = weak tight?

Sneezy = Tight aggressive

This is fun. I would love to see more posts like this. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Blitzen - Wow. Too bad he left. After hand 4, my notes on him would read, "very loose, very passive".

Comet - I would have scratched my head at how he played his flopped straight. But I would have only made a note of it, and then he left. So no read, really.

Cupid - No read.

Doc - Tight,seems weakish. Hard to tell.

Donner - Tight, but after hand 13, seems kinda passive.

Hutch - Don't know. I might have played his one hand that way, too, with all those callers at the river.

Larry - First read would be that he sat down with what, $40? That's a strike against him right away.
I would have noted the bluff attempt. I would classify him as a gambler.

Moe - Tight, but after hand 15, I would probably think of him as sorta wimpy.

Optimus - No read

Prancer - Very loose, too passive.

Rudolph - Hand 1, would have immediately put Rudolph into the dork category. What the hell was he doing? He's either trying to steal the pot against two people, one of them new to the table, or slowplaying his pair of nines. He does nothing to change that opinion later. Loose passive.

Sneezy - Possible rock but maybe he is just getting really crappy cards. But then in hand 16, my respect would go up for him a bit, but 3-betting top two is not all that ballsy.

So you are left at the table with Rudolph, Donner, Optimus, Hutch, Moe, Sneezy and Doc. One loose player, a couple unknowns, a few tight weak guys and a possible tight-aggressive. If I stayed at this table, I would watch out for Sneezy, get a read on Hutch and Optimus, try to get Rudolph heads-up, and maybe steal a few pots from the rest of them. Maybe not worth it.

Blitzen - Calling Station, Chaser, Folds the river alot. I'd be pushing this guy every chance I got, with any part of the flop.

Rudolph - Started out Loose, then died.

Prancer - Loose-Passive Chaser

Comet - Weak-Tight Calling Station

DOC - TAG

Sneezy - TAG

Cupid - No read

Moe - Weak Tight ?????

Larry - LAG

Hutch - Not quite sure yet....couple more hands.

Let's see. My notes after these 16 hands:

Blitzen: l 43s UTG+1. Calls down with any part of board, will raise 2 pair on river into aggressor. Pretty loose. Not very passive.

Comet: flopped straight with str-fl draw and called down (others betting for him)

Cupid: .

Doc: seems decent. r QQ UTG.

Donner: seems decent. pretty tight.

Hutch: .

Larry: Sat down with 5BB (good catch Soggy!) Tried to push me around on broadway flop after my PF raise. he had top pair, gutshot draw. Let himself get all-in later.

Moe: seems decent.

Optimus: .

Prancer: op-l with 76o. aggressive with flopped straight. Any ace player. will raise if makes hand against PF raiser. maybe LA b/not maniac

Rudolph: op-l with Q9o UTG. got frisky on draw heavy board with TP-9 Q-Kick. Usually passive.

Sneezy: existing notes

(Sneezy and I have played roughly 900 hands against each other at .5/1-2/4. He's a little tighter than me preflop, and a bit more aggressive postflop. We've never chatted at the table beyond the "nh", but he must know that I'm TA (preflop at least). He's a good player. He bets draws, doesn't slowplay much and doesn't bluff much. He is capable of raising preflop and releasing what I assume is a decent hand if heads up. Thus the utter inexcusability of Hand 16.)

I thought the table was pretty good, and I wanted to do some 1-table work, so I stuck around for 120 hands and lost 30 BB. Table was still generally good, but a lot of second best hands were made (the pattern from hands 2 & 9). Oh well. That's the short term.

Oh, and as for seating. Since the calling stations kept departing, and I pretty much assume new players aren't that great, I liked my seat, a couple downwind of Sneezy. If I could have moved a couple spots further away from him, that would have been fine too, to see how the table was gonna react if he chose to make an issue of stuff.

Your seating position relative to the loose players is a lot more important than your seating position relative to the tight players.
