The Battle of the Boards: Small Stakes vs. InternetTexasHoldem.com tournament approaches.

Today, 3:00 PM EST, PokerStars, $20+1 NLHE.

If you want to register, we're still taking all comers. PM me for the password.

I'm guessing we'll have an unequal number of entrants on each team, but Mike Haven has provided us with a weighted scoring system to compensate.

Presently there are 26 registered players: 14 2+2ers, 10 ITHers, and 2 uknown players.

Does anyone know who "Mickey724" or "trnguyen70" are on PokerStars?

I was sitting on the fence, but got out of my other obligations, and am now registered.

Good luck,
play well,

Well, I promised that I suck at NL, and I am a man of my word.

There are 38 total players, 22 2+2 SSers (how great is that?) and 16 ITHers. I busted out 29th when 2+2er BugsBunny decided I was bluffing preflop when I (the SB) raised to 300 with KQo and called from the BB with 97o. The flop had a 9, I went all-in, and he called.

Anyway, feel free to stop in on PokerStars and check it out. There's some fun smack talking going on.

Doesn't look like we are doing so good.

I was short-stacked pretty much the whole time after giving half my chips away early when I had 77 limped, called a raise, check-raised a flop full of undercards and folded to his all-in reraise.

On my final hand I pushed from the button with JTs with about T900 and 50/100 blinds. The big stack called with QJs from the BB and I didn't catch my miracle, so my only showdown of the day was a loser. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sorry for miserable performance. Out in 24th when KQ runs up against Tosh's TT.

Had to be the coldest cards I have ever gotten in a tournament.

Yeah, I busted out both you and Clash - sorry. I figured you'd be raising light there, but even so almost folded it. If I wasn't suited, or if I couldn't have afforded to lose, I would have folded.

Early exit for me. Short stacked and on the button with A3o. Folded to me and I double the blinds, reraised by the SB, I move in, his 99 holds up.

I blame London jet-lag, not my pathetic NL skills.

I went out 21st (fashidus). I had the coldest cards ever, out of the first 100 hands dealt, i saw 4 flops, won 1/1 showdowns, and 4 wins no showdown. AA Once, all folded.

Last hand, shortstacked, I pushed all in with 8 outer OESD, wanted the other 2 to call, they did, I hit the 8 outer on the turn, but the board paired for chipfargs set to go full.

Tightest NL Tourney I've ever seen the first hour.

BugsBunny
04-25-2004, 04:36 PM
If you had raised any more than that I would have folded, but since I was already in for a chunk from the BB I figured I'd call and see a flop. After that I figured you for overcards, or maybe a weak A.

Joshua

I went out in 33rd. I can't blame cold cards. What I can blame is that I can hardly even spell no-limit. I'm currently writing a book on how to overplay QQ.

I am the short stack at the table with aroun T1700 giove or take. The blinds are $75/150. I limp UTG with A /images/graemlins/club.gifK /images/graemlins/club.gif. UTG+1, Humbert H. reliably raises me about 750, it gets folded back to and I re4-raise all in. Humbert H. had a pair of Jacks which held up. At that point I was indifferent to his pre-flop call as it looked to be my best chance in a while to try to double through which I needed to do quickly to stay alive. In the early rounds I had some monster hands that were getting no action even though I was not trying to overbet the pot. Still, every time I raised pre-flop with my power hands, AA, QQ, AQs, i just won the blinds. Good luck to everyone who is left. Let's sweat our fellow 2+2ers and see if we can win this thing. Thank you bdk3clash for setting this up. By the way, whatever the final results, we would totally kill these guys in limit.

I tried to play overagressive...made a stupid play ( overbet the pot pf with KQo, blinds set me all-in, I called ?!)... and got looked up. Though I don't know why Tosh defended his blinds against me since we're on the same team. I guess it's better he has em. Sorry SS. Good luck.

I am happy with my finish today. 10th from someone who doesn't know how to play NL. Highlight of the day for me..

1st hand I get TT in the CO and the flop come JTx I go all in and QQ calls. I double up and was chip leader for about ten seconds til the next hand I get 99 and call off a bunch of chips. What a great time /images/graemlins/grin.gif

The final weighted score is:

358.2995895 ITH

323.7004105 SS

Bear in mind that we cancelled Mountain_Rat's final score because he never showed up. He was blinded out 17th. This does not impact the final result.

It was a narrow victory. ITH had 5 of 9 at the final table (I barely made it), and SS had the 1 and 2 finishers. Great job, all!

Yeah it ways a great tourney. That was without a doubt one of the toughest final tables I have even been in. In the first hour we lost a total of three people.

Even though the score says we took it, I think it was pretty much it a tie. Both forums were represented well at the final table and in the end it really came down to a few coin flips.

Congrats to Tosh, he played an excellent game. Once he got a hold of some chips he was almost unstoppable. I was on his left, and he got me to lay down a bunch of hands that I would normally raise with.

Well done by both teams. We'll have to do it again some time. Maybe we could add some other forums..

Nice work, man. I thought you played well at our first table.

My hand of the day with our champion: It's early (15/30 blinds), I limp UTG w/ QQ, intending to limp-reraise one of the ignorant ITH'ers at my original table. There's a raise to about 150 from LP, folded to Tosh in the BB and he instantly moves the rest of his stack in. He has me covered by about 400 or so. All of a sudden, my clever plan has gone to [censored]. I think for a while about calling, but finally decide that Tosh is probably too solid a player to be making that move w/ TT or JJ. I muck. Original raiser calls off the rest of his stack (maybe 850-900). Tosh has AKo, LP has KQo (WTF?). I really hope he wasn't a 2+2er. If you are, man, I apologize, but that's terrible.

Anyway, Tosh's AK holds up and he's off to the races. Oh, and my queens would have been good. You owe me...bastard. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bob T.
04-25-2004, 09:41 PM
Congratulations to Tosh. You definately deserved my money, as I was all in against you twice, and dominated both times.

Whichever side 'won', it was a well fought battle. I would guess that that was one of the toughest final tables at a $20 event that you would ever see. Certainly that you would ever care to see. We can at least fall back on the zoo defense, and claim the money title /images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

Bob T.

That was a brutal hand. I had been playing pretty fast. Ok, just below light speed, and I thought about it, and thought that someone might try to either fold me, or take me out with just about any pair.

At the time that happened, I was shortstacked, and well out of the money, and my open raise was for about 1/4th of my chips, and I thought a short time, and thought that you might have tried harder to trap me if you had AA, or KK, and so I convinced my self that you might make that raise with JJ and below, and that I was going to be facing a coinflip, instead of the disaster that I ended up surviving.

Given that I made such bad decisions on the KQ hand, and the AJsuited hand that I went out on, I was happy to see that you won.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

I actually thought you had something pretty huge yourself that hand. I think you were UTG and as you say it was a significant chunk of your stack. I was a little surprised to see the KQ but you're also right in saying you were shortstacked and I was very happy to get the money in regardless of the outcome.

I did think at the time though that I had raised too much and left you a way out. If you had another 1k I definitely needed a smaller raise.

Thanks, in my opinion, everyone who was at the final table played great. Congratulations to you also.

I've been practicing playing fast, when the right situations occur, and this tournament was one of them. There weren't guys out there, who where going to coldcall with say A6 suited, or something like that, so the first raise in was going to win a lot of pots. The hard part, is finding the right raise size to win enough hands, while still being able to play postflop, and to not give up to much if people move in after your raise.

Anyway, it is kinda fun to be playing in a tournament doing my Minh the Master/Scotty Nguyen/Daniel Negreanu impersonation instead of my usual more disciplined ring game.

Once again, congratulations on your showing.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

That definitely was some fast play... It didn't help that I had Tosh building a monster stack to my right.

Here's pretty much how that whole final table went for me. I look down and see a decent hand (KJ,A10,88,A9, etc.) and think "Sweet, I can finally play". Then boom, Tosh raises and I can't continue. He had only shown two hands down at the time, and one of them was KK.

I kept thinking about coming over the top of him with some of those hands, but couldn't drum up the heart to do so..:) Next time maybe..

I was just talking a little friendly trash with the "ignorant ITH'er" comment. Sorry if it offended anyone. If you look through all of my previous posts, you'll find that I have absolutely no history of bad-mouthing people or whining or any of that.

And yes, my early exit clearly didn't back up my previous smack-talk. But I don't live in a results-oriented world, so I will live to fight another day. I was happy with all of my tourney plays but one, and it wasn't the QQ limp-reraise, which was very clearly the correct choice at that point.
