Poker Chips

I'm looking for poker chips, and I'm not impressed with the 11.5 gram chips seen everywhere. I want something a little more upscale. I've seen pokerchips.com and their product seems pretty legit. I've read some stuff on past posts about chipco, but I was wondering about the ceramic chips, do they have that casino feel to them?? I've watched the latenightpoker on fox sports net once or twice, and im convinced that they use the chipco chips, and they sound a lot different than clay chips. Anybody have any advice on what chips to get?

I'm happy with my 11.5 gram dice striped chips, but to each his own.

Contact the suppliers you listed and request sample chips. Buy accordingly.

my buddy has a set from pokerchips.com and they're probably the best i've played with, although they are not as heavy as casino chips, but they'r every nice.

Well, the 11.5g suited chips you "see everywhere" are likely hard/heavy plastic - which is why you may feel they are not upscale enough.

Pokerchips.com sells compression molded chips. Those are traditional style "clay" chips used in many Vegas casinos. They have a physical relief going around the border and a circular image in the middle. I think they offer the 9gram variety which I have heard is common in AC casinos but I've never been.

The Chipco's you are referring to are Protech chips. They are offered by homepokerchips.com and thechipstore.com. These chips are 10grams and are smooth across the whole face. They are also considered "clay chips". There is no mold on the outside rim - they have a design that covers the entire side of the chip (rather than just the centre). I haven't found these to be as common in Vegas althugh the Luxor used them last time I was there a few years back.

I myself am looking to buy and I haven't made a final decision on what type I want. I am collecting samples and looking for comments.

You're definitely looking at the right chips. Either the composite Pro-tech ( theChipStore.com (http://www.thechipstore.com) ) or the Clay chips( BuyPokerChips.com (http://www.buypokerchips.com) ) are both a good choice, it's just a matter of feel between the two which comes down to personal preference. The clay chips have a gritty clay feel - you can actually turn them on edge and write on a piece of paper with them if you push hard enough as if they were crayon. The protech chips are more durable, but they do sound different when splashing the pot. I'd recommend getting samples of each, see which you like the feel of better, and then deciding on a purchase.
