In his tournament book, Sklansky does not mention stack-to-blind ratio as a factor that should affect strategy except when you could go all-in on one hand (or close to it late in the tournament). If you have an average range stack of $10,000 in the middle of a tournament, and you are of average ability compared to your opponents, does it matter whether the blinds are 50/100 versus 400/800?

I am surprised that nobody suggested it is correct to play more loosely and aggressively when the blinds are large in relation to your average-sized stack (and you are still far from the money). Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned El Supremo's silence on this matter. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

It seems to me that the opposite would more likely be true. Since your opponents are apt to bust out more quickly when the blinds are large in relation to the average stack, I suspect that tight, low-variance play would tend to have more value in this circumstance.
