Daily (weekend) tourneys at Tropicana in AC

Hi, all:

I'm going to be taking a trip to AC in May, the weekend before Memorial Day weekend. The original plan was that weekend, but my wife misread the calendar and made the reservations for May 22-24 instead of 29-31 (heh!), but after thinking about it, decided it might be less crowded anyway, and after clearing the vacation day at work, we decided to just stick with it. Besides, that clears my decks for a chess tournament I wanted to play in on the real Mem. Day weekend. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway, I was browsing the websites of AC casinos I knew had poker rooms, and noticed that the Trop has NL tournaments on Sat. and Sun. ($50+15 and $40+15, respectively), and am thinking about playing in one (assuming I can clear it with She Who Must Be Obeyed /images/graemlins/wink.gif). Has anyone had experience with these? Any pointers on what to expect (size of field, level of competition, etc.)? And is there anything I should know with respect to protocol (this would be my first live tourney)? If I should be good/lucky enough to cash, should I tip the dealers if I just place or only if I win the whole thing; if so, how much, and how do I go about doing that?

Anything else I should know, that I didn't think to ask? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh, also; are there any other AC casinos that would offer one-day weekend tourneys? It looked like the Borgata and the Taj only offer them M-F, or did I overlook something?

I don't have the info in front of me, but I can tell you:

Taj Mahal, Borgata, and Tropicana have weekly (M-F) tournaments of different amounts. All NL are rebuy except Taj Monday and Friday. Trop has a Saturday tournament, and the Sands has a Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon tournament.

I'm heading to LV for a week, but I'll post more specific info when I get back... send me a PM to remind me.

Thanks! I actually did look at the Trop's website, and saw that in May (we'll be there the 22nd thru 24th, but I have to catch a flight home early Monday evening, so I probably don't have time for a tourney that day), they have Sat. and Sun. games starting at 11:15am. Didn't know about the Sands, though; I'll have a look. How close are they to the Taj and the Showboat (we're staying at each on different nights)? I'd prefer walking distance, but if needed, I can take a cab (we're not planning on renting a car).

Yup, that does help. I heard the Sands' poker room allows smoking; is that still the case (I'm a bit sensitive to it; I can put up with some, but I don't like a big cloud... /images/graemlins/smile.gif)?
