I don't think he plays in tournaments.

He also prefers limit to no-limit. See his Poker Essays books, or his posts on here.

He said he doesn't play tourneys b/c the side action is usually far better.

it would be so nice to see Mason knock Doyle out with Q5 /images/graemlins/spade.gif

I want to see our fearless leader on prime time.

If Mason plays, they should put him on the same table with Gary Carson and Mat Lessinger.

Hi Everyone:

I have no plans to play.

I have played in a few of the tournaments over the years, but nothing since 2000, and I have never played in the final championship.

Best wishes,
Mason

I dont want to speak for the man, but there is a quote from the movie 'Searching for Bobby Fischer' that could apply here.

[ QUOTE ]
If I win, they'll say, of course he won, he's the #1 chess player in the world. But, if I loose....

[/ QUOTE ]

This could be part of his reasoning, maybe not.

mason isn't looking for fame and glory, he's looking for EV, and evidently he sees the biggest EV in cash games and his publishing business!

I don't think anyone would say this about his NL game.

Or maybe just because he doesn't like tournaments or No Limit Hold'em very much?

Why is there a mystery here?

Hi dayrn:

You hit the nail on the head.

The biggest EV for me by far is in our publishing business. I would like to play a few tournaments, and this includes the no limit tournaments, but I literally don't have time.

I am now committed to four different book projects. The first everyone knows about. It's called Small Stakes Hold 'em; Winning Big with Expert Play by Ed Miller, David Sklansky, and Mason Malmuth. The second is Business is a Poker Game by Allan Schoonmaker who thinks he owns the Psychology forum.

The books three and four are not titled yet but a portion of the first of these is written and I have material to review. All I will say now is that the author of these books is a former WSOP winner and they are about no limit hold 'em tournament strategy. As I get more into the project, I will release more information.

Best wishes,
Mason

Of course he's explained it above, but to the extent anyone considers it mysterious, its because most of us, if we had ample financial resources and the poker skill, would absolutely love to be playing in the WSOP. So when somebody who has both those things chooses not to play its just...well...mysterious, lol.

I've been waiting my whole life for a book from Robert Varkonyi. Thank you, so very much.

Maybe Chris Ferguson wants a piece of this whole 2+2 thing. Doubt it, but hey, we all know the guy's a freaking genius, so maybe its not that much of a stretch.

I'm setting the line at 3:2 that you're Redhotman/HoldenCaul. All we need is PM spam about bootleg dvds.

So I guess when we are referring to Ed's book we should call it.... SSHEWBEP.......now THAT's a serious abbreviation /images/graemlins/grin.gif

How about
"Streamside poker for advanced fishermen-How too score flies, reels and extra coffee while on a backpacking trip" by Ray Zee, EdI and Boris

For what it's worth, I don't really have any desire to play in the WSOP, at least not in the main event.

I suppose if someone wanted to pay my entry fee I could be talked into it, but I can't imgaine paying my own way. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mason,

I understand that you probably don't have time, and truthfully don't care who does and doesn't play in the WSOP. But, I think you would have to agree that with the rise in popularity of televised poker, yourself or another 2+2 author appearing in such an event would be beneficial to your company. Just a thought.

Hi James:

There's no question that's true, and David has been playing in some of these events. Perhaps next year.

Best wishes,
mason

Mason is right. David and I played in the same Stud event yesterday. I wasn't at his table, but he was two over from me.

See, that's why I don't understand why you don't play that up on the books. Pictures of bracelets next to David, or something. Or didn't they used to give bracelets for the non-10k NLHE Championship events?
