Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (9 handed)

UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, MP3 folds, Hero raises, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds, UTG calls, MP1 calls.

Flop: (7.50 SB) 4/images/graemlins/club.gif, 4/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 8/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (3 players)
UTG checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, UTG folds, MP1 calls.

Turn: (4.75 BB) 8/images/graemlins/heart.gif (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets, MP1 folds.

Final Pot: 5.75 BB
Main Pot: 4.75 BB, won by Hero.
Pot 2: 1 BB, overbet by Hero.

After I played this I thought maybe I should have played it differently. Would a turn check hoping to induce a bluff been the better play? The board isnt really that scary for a free card, and if he does have the 4 or 8 I save some bets. Or am I just thinking all this because he folded? Or would it really be the higher EV play?

Check sometimes against aggressive players and raise the river, against loose/passive calling stations always bet.

I don't understand why you would raise the river. If they're bluffing, presumably they won't call, and if they've got an 8 (maybe a 4), it's going to be 3 bets.

It will be rare they have an 8 or 4, and my experience has been they will call most of the times they bet, YMMV.

Maybe it's a party thing. Maybe they just don't fold on the river with anything reasonable.
