I'm putting together a CD for personal use, just can't think of a lot of songs to put on it. So far:

The Gambler - Kenny Rogers
Viva Las Vegas - Elvis
Atlantic City - Bruce Springsteen
Crazy Game of Poker - OAR
Ramblin, Gamblin Willie - Bob Dylan
Lazy Poker Blues - Fleetwood Mac
Plenty of Money and You - Count Basie/Tony Bennett
Luck Be A Lady - Sinatra

Any others?

One of the greatest is Townes Van Zandt's Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold - (of course, Townes was the greatest songwriter in the world, so it makes sense this song was so good) - the cards become personified in a game of 5 card stud -

-------------------
The wicked king of clubs awoke
and to his queen he turned
his lips were laughing as they spoke
his eyes like bullets burned
the sun's upon a gambling day
his queen smiled low and blissfully
let's make some wretched fool to play
plain it was she did agree

He send his deuce down into diamond
his four to hart, and his trey to spade
three kings with their legions come
preparations soon where made
they voted club the days commander
gave him an army face and number
all but the outlaw jack of diamonds
and the aces in the sky

He give his sevens first instructions
spirit me a game of stud
stakes unscarred by limitation
'tween a man named Gold and man named Mudd
Club filled Gold with greedy vapors
'til his long, green eyes did glow
Mudd was left with the sighs and trembles
watching his hard earned money go

Flushes fell on Gold like water
tens they paired and paired again
but the aces only flew through heaven
and the diamond jack called no man friend
The diamond queen saw Mudd's ordeal
began to think of her long lost son
fell to her knees with a mother's mercy
prayed to the angels every one

The diamond queen, she prayed and prayed
and the diamond angel filled Mudd's hole
the wicked king of clubs himself
fell in face down in front of Gold
now three kings come to Clubs command
but the angels from the sky did ride
three kings up on the streets of Gold
three fireballs on the muddy side

The club queen heard her husband's call
but Lord that queen of diamond's joy
when the outlaw in the heavenly hall
turned out to be a wandering boy
Now Mudd he checked and Gold bet all
and Mudd he raised and Gold did call
and the smile just melted off his face
when Mudd turned over that diamond ace

Now here's what this story's told
if you feel like Mudd you'll end up Gold
if you feel like lost, you'll end up found
so amigo, lay them raises down

There's been a thread about this before, I suggest an archive search for "poker songs". However, there's a few you could add -

Clint Black - Good Run of Bad Luck (from "Maverick")

Garth Brooks - Two Of A Kind, Workin' On A Full House (which isn't really about poker except in the title, but still)

And I'm sure a few others I can't think of...There's the Eagles' "Desperado" - "Don't you draw the Queen of Diamonds, boy, she'll beat you if she's able. You know the Queen of Hearts is always your best bet."

The Deadheads must all still be asleep.....or at the Phish shows in Vegas.

Loser

If I had a gun for every ace I have drawn,
I could arm a town the size of Abilene
Don't you push me baby,
Cause I'm all alone and you know I'm only in it for the gold

All that I am asking for is ten gold dollars
And I could pay you back with one good hand
You can look around about the wide world over
And you'll never find another honest man.

Last fair deal in the country,
Sweet Suzie, last fair deal in the town
Put your gold money where your love is baby,
Before you let my deal go down

Don't you push me baby, cause I'm all alone
Well I know a little something you won't ever know
Don't you touch hard liquor, just a cup of cold coffee
I'm gonna get up in the morning and go

Everybody prayin' and drinkin' that wine
I can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines
Come to daddy on the inside straight,
Well I got no chance of losin' this time

Last fair deal in the country,
Last fair deal in the town
Put your gold money where your love is baby,
Before you let my deal go down

Everybody prayin' and drinkin' that wine
I can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines
Come to daddy on the inside straight,
Well I got no chance of losin' this time.

Deal

Since it costs a lot to win, and even more to lose,
You and me bound to spend some time wond'rin' what to choose.
Goes to show, you don't ever know,
Watch each card you play and play it slow,
Wait until that deal come round,
Don't you let that deal go down, no, no.

I been gamblin' hereabouts for ten good solid years,
If I told you all that went down it would burn off both of your ears.
Goes to show you don't ever know
Watch each card you play and play it slow,
Wait until that deal come round,
Don't you let that deal go down, no, no.

Since you poured the wine for me and tightened up my shoes,
I hate to leave you sittin' there, composin' lonesome blues.
Goes to show you don't ever know
Watch each card you play and play it slow,
Wait until that deal come round, don't you let that deal go down.

Wait until that deal come round, don't you let that deal go down,
Wait until that deal come round, don't you let that deal go down,
Don't you let that deal go down, don't you let that deal go down.

Ramble On Rose

Just like Crazy Otto, just like Wolfman Jack,
Sittin plush with a royal flush, aces back to back.

Scarlet Begonias

In the thick of the evening when the dealing got rough,
She was too pat to open and too cool to bluff.

Truckin, got my chips cashed in...

Truckin', like the do-dah man. Once told me "You've got to play your hand"
Sometimes your cards ain't worth a dime, if you don't lay'em down,

And a listing here too...

Sting, Shape of my heart

Some lyrics:

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He don't play for respect

He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance

The Jack by AC/DC

She gave me the Queen
She gave me the King
She was wheelin' and dealin'
Just doin' her thing
She was holdin' a pair
But I had to try
Her Deuce was wild
But my Ace was high
But how was I to know
That she'd been dealt with before
Said she'd never had a Full House
But I should have known
From the tattoo on her left leg
And the garter on her right
She'd have the card to bring me down
If she played it right

She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack
She's got the Jack

Poker face was her name
Poker face was her nature
Poker straight was her game
If she knew she could get you
She play'd 'em fast
And she play'd 'em hard
She could close her eyes
And feel every card
But how was I to know
That she'd been shuffled before
Said she'd never had a Royal Flush
But I should have known
That all the cards were comin'
From the bottom of the pack
And if I'd known what she was dealin' out
I'd have dealt it back

She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack, And who knows what else?
She's got the Jack, yeah, yeah
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack, Ooh, was a bad deal, Jack
She gave me the Jack hey
She's got the Jack, She's got the Jack, She's got the Jack
Ooh, can't ya tell?
She's got the Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack
She's got the Jack, She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack, She's got the Jack
You Never know! She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack, She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack, and it hurts!
She's got the Jack
She's got the Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack
She's got the Jack
AAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Oooooh!
Thank you, thank you, Thank you people, Thank you, Thank you
I'm glad you like the show, yes, thank you very much folks.
Good night and God bless!

Although I don't think its really about poker.

Two of my faves:

Slowroller, by Tommy Angelo; and,

Stranger Song, by Leonard Cohen. (Cohen might be be a little too melancholy to go with the others you have selected.)

"The South Coast" is the best poker song ever. It was written by Lillian Bos-Ross. A good version is done by Tom Russell on "Songs of the West."

Nothing that anyone has listed so far can top, "I won my wife in a card game--and to hell with those Lords o'er the sea."

Part of the song details the winning of the young lady in the card game, which must surely be poker.

ive never really read the words to that tune.

Still the same is more about visiting the player as rock is to being the player.

Though im sick of the rock song from that damn commercial. Saturated it.

HELL YES! I haven't heard that song in a while. I'm glad you mentioned it. Gotta love Motorhead.

Or, if you're feeling really LAG-ish, you could always just listen to "Big Balls".

OK, I really just put that in here to get it out there. This song's too good (or whatever it actually is) to ignore, even if it has NOTHING to do with poker.

As long as Dylan's in there, "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts" has a some poker material...

The festival was over, the boys were all plannin' for a fall,
The cabaret was quiet except for the drillin' in the wall.
The curfew had been lifted and the gamblin' wheel shut down,
Anyone with any sense had already left town.
He was standin' in the doorway lookin' like the Jack of Hearts.

He moved across the mirrored room, "Set it up for everyone," he said,
Then everyone commenced to do what they were doin' before he turned their heads.
Then he walked up to a stranger and he asked him with a grin,
"Could you kindly tell me, friend, what time the show begins?"
Then he moved into the corner, face down like the Jack of Hearts.

Backstage the girls were playin' five-card stud by the stairs,
Lily had two queens, she was hopin' for a third to match her pair.
Outside the streets were fillin' up, the window was open wide,
A gentle breeze was blowin', you could feel it from inside.
Lily called another bet and drew up the Jack of Hearts.

What AC/DC song isn't good? They're just a straight-out, kick ass rock n roll band. When I'm rolling down I-61 into Tunica, I sometimes blast Highway to Hell. That gets me going.
